“Security and Location excellent .........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2009

I arrived in Stuttgart by train and this was one of the reasons for booking this hotel. Found one entrance to the hotel actually just off the station concourse - very convenient. The main shopping area is right across the road and there is a very pretty park area and lake behind the hotel. Check-in was straightforward and all information given in good English. I had asked for a room on a high floor and that's exactly what I got although it was quite a distance from reception but with lifts and clearly marked corridors it was easy to find. The key set-up was a little confusing (a strange piece of plastic) but worked well when you discovered exactly how to use it. The advertise their rooms as burglar-proof and I can imagine that if you lock the room as directed this would be true. The room was large with modern and clean furniture and the bathroom was HUGE! I requested another pillow and one was brought within 5 minutes. Although right on the main street there was hardly any noise from traffic as the windows were well soundproofed. The mini-bar prices were very reasonable - much the same as in the bar. The breakfast was excellent - many and varied cold selections of meats, cheeses, fruit, juices, breads and pastries along with scrambled eggs, sausages, tomato and mini frickedellen. For avid tea drinkers the choice was amazing with herbal, fruit and various breakfast teas on offer. All in all a good choice and I recommend this for travellers wanting a good central location.

“Avoid this hotel if possible for its rude and unhelpful reception staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2009

I am disabled and can walk only with the aid of crutches, so, although there was a lift and the room which I had been given was number 111 on the first floor, I still needed help with my bag, which I could not carry myself because of my crutches. There were two at the reception desk, a man and a woman, and I said to them that perhaps, when there was a quiet moment, one of them could put my bag up to my room. The woman receptionist replied quite sharply that there could be no question of their doing this, since they were receptionists, not porters, and that the hotel did not employ porters. The following morning when I went to the lobby, I found two different receptionists – again a man and a woman – who had clearly been told of my request of the previous evening, since the woman immediately told me not to be thinking that either of them would be able to help me with my bag. ‘This is a three-star hotel’, she said, ‘and three-star hotels do not provide porters. If you want porters, you should go to a four-star or a five-star hotel.’ I have never encountered such an unhelpful reception and was amazed to find in my room a booklet of 'Guest Information' with the words ‘A step into excellence’ on its cover and reading inside ‘Our front desk personnel is available around-the-clock for all your questions and wishes. We will try to do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible.’ I hope never to have to revisit this hotel.

“Have always been treated well !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2009

My wife a native of Stuttgart and I have stayed at the hotel in the fall for a number of years for at at least nine days , or more since my mother-in-law has been placed in a nursing home . We have always been treated very well , It's not a grand resort , but very clean and comfortable. The staff has always been very helpful. My wife is a Leisure Travel Agent with a very large American Automoble Assocation . Yes there is the train station , but the rooms are very sound proof.

“Only for train spotters”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2008

This hotel is really set up for train travellers transiting through Stuttgart. It is attached to the railway station overlooking it or the station car park.

Now whilst Stuttgart station is just off the town centre being this close to the station has a few drawbacks. There is a lot of passing pedestrain traffic, and the full collection of people who seem to be drawn to railways. The hotel makes a point of emphasising room security which doesn't add to your sense of personal safety.

The hotel itself is a good straight hotel. The suite we had was compact but comfortable. Breakfast was fine. The place has been taken over by the Steigenberger group and they look like they are trying to lift it up a bit. On the negative side, the check in staff where not rude but either somewhat distant or preoccupied and a bit less than welcoming. Car access was via the railway station car park to unload and then into a public car park around the corner and which was a maze of tunnels and railway platforms away on the return walk back to the hotel. We thought our car was less than secure in the railway carpark, it didn't fare any better in the public station overnight. The whole process was very inconvenient.

Stuttgart is an interesting stopover with a great art gallery, the Mercedes Museum, Ludwigsberg etc but there are probably better hotels from which to enjoy what it has to offer.

“Convenient.. and surprisingly quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2008

Surprising hotel - looked a little jaded from outside, but the room was good, comfortable, and clean. Also thought I'd have difficulty sleeping, ground floor, taxi rank and streetlight outside window, but curtains were lightproof and the room also soundproof, didn't get disturbed at all. Location is very convenient too, especially with free travelcard. Breakfast good too.
Overall, thought it was good value for such a central location and would stay again if appropriate.
