This was my first visit to Mannheim and hence took pot luck on the hotel.
It's about a 5 minute cab journey from the Hauptbahnhof, and I was greeted by a queue of people checking in at reception, with only one person on the desk. Thankfully someone else soon appeared, yet it still took over 5 minutes to check me in.
For some reason I was allocated a smoking room (no-one told me on check-in), and the stench of cigarettes in the corridor of the 3rd floor was disgusting. I almost turned round but thought I'd give the room a chance. Thankfully, the room was entirely free of cigarette smell (an ashtray was provided so this was definitely a smoking room).
The room was basic, and there were no tea or coffee making facilities. There was a small mini-bar with soft drinks and some beer, along with chocolate bars and nuts. Two twin beds were provided, and the one i used gave a very comfortable night's sleep. The room was clean and was in a good decorative order.
The bathroom was small and seemed to be 'dropped in' to the room (maybe a modular build hotel??). The bath was small, and was only suitable for a shower. The sink unit was plastic. However, it was spotlessly clean.
Dinner at the restaurant was OK, albeit the menu had a very limited choice. However, breakfast was excellent - a really good choice of hot and cold buffet food.
There was nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel, but if I do go back to Mannheim i will try and search out somewhere else.
