This is our second visit to Hotel Acora.
Positives - we stayed in the loft maisonette which is ideal for two wth upstairs sleeping accommodation. The small kitchen is very well thought out, and with supermarket very close means that self catering (when wanted) is a real possibility.
The room was cleaned very well on a daily basis and we found the reception both friendly and efficient.
For us the position on Sophienstrasse is ideal - close to the city centre but also our son's place of work. However, another really big plus is Karlsruhe's tram system which runs on street and railway. This means, for example, that you can start off with Christmas markets in the centre of town, then be hiking the Black Forest within an hour. Try, for example the S1 to Bad Herrenalb.
ALSO - try the German restaurant across the road. Although it's not a tourist spot (or for veggies) many of the staff speak English, and the buffet is good quality and reasonably priced.
Average - Internet access at 9euros per 24 hours might seem a bit steep, but good car parking at the hotel at 6 euros (or less) per day, compared well with street parking.

All in all a pretty good experience.

Room Tip: Level 4 loft maisonette recommended.

“Very rude staff, very small rooms, inconvenient access!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

If you have to stay more than 10 days, I recommend to stay in Acora Apartments (Annex Building). The apartments are better and bigger than the hotel rooms. The only bad thing is the access to Apartment as it is a little more walk into the street away from reception. The elevator is very small and one person can go up the first time (coz you have baggage as well).

The laundry service in basement is available but it is on purchase of tokens for machine and dryer. The machines are sometimes out of service. Once my tokens got stuck and machine did not start. I called up the reception but was disappointed coz they were not believing me for the first time as if I screwed up the machine. They sent a women downstairs and when she saw herself that the machine token system was really not working, she murmured something in German and asked me to go to the other building for washing clothes as the machine was out of service. When I asked reception for replacement tokens, they did so with a very bad attitude as if I had asked for something wrong. I did not like the behaviour of hotel staff that day! After that I discovered that there was a nice Wash House available close to the apartment building down the road so I started using that instead. It was good as same priced as the hotel washing service.

The hotel staff (except for a couple of receptionists) was very rude. Once my daughter marked the pillow cover with a red crayon color. The next day I came into my room and I saw a 12 Euro Bill as a fine for "Painting" hotel belongings. I was really pissed off as it was not paint but a crayon color which could be washed easily. I went downstairs to discuss the 12 Euro fine but the receptionist refused to accept that it could be washed. I paid them 12 Euros but took the pillow case with me to the wash house next day. As expected, it got absolutely cleaned and when I came back to hotel I showed it to the receptionist. They were ashamed but none of them talked about returning my 12 Euro ;)

The hotel service provided us with an Iron for pressing our clothes (on a deposit of 10 Euro). The last day when I went to return that Iron, the receptionist had a breif look at the iron and told me that I would be fined 5 Euros for making the Iron dirty. Although it was a very old iron and was already very dirty. I was in a hurry so did not argue much and paid them the 5 Euro fine as well. However, I realized that these German receptionists had no sense of hospitality in them. They were all very rude throughout my stay.

I would never recommend anyone to stay in Acora Hotel. However, Acora Apartment is a good choice as it is cheap and value for money!

Room Tip: Rooms in Acora Hotel are terrible, don't go for them. Choose Acora Apartment (Annex Building) an...

“wouldn't call it a hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

It's a building with tons of small rooms, that have a small kitchenette, small bed, desk and shower. I think people live here too - so not just hotel guests.
no airconditioning which means you're going to suffer in the hottest city of Germany.
there's a sign on the sink that you need to wash your own dishes - this is not included in the cleaning service.
I got back from work at around 16.30 and my room wasn't cleaned. I asked the reception to send someone to my in about 30 minutes to clean it - but the comment I got was that all the cleaning personnel goes home at 17.00. So they sent someone right away, to whom i said "don't bother, just give me clean towels". The cleaning lady told me she has to clean so many rooms, that she needs the whole day for it and that's why it wasn't cleaned in the morning.
By the way, only one big, and one small towel are provided. When I asked for some extra towels, i did get some. Rewe supermarket is accross from the hotel. This means you don't need to spend 12 euros for breakfast. Rewe is open from 7 AM -10 PM every day, including Saturday. The hotel seems pretty cheap - between 50-75 euro's per night and there aren't that many hotels in Karlsruhe....

“We loved our long stay of 65 days in partment room and we'll be back”

We were a newly wed couple. I was on official trip and also took my wife on the trip .. we were looking for a hotel which provides kitchenette so that we can enjoy our Indian daily food even in Germany too :). we stayed for 1st 4 days in IBIS hotel after that we shifted to Acora. The recetionists were great in attending the gusts and were able to speak english and german. we loved the interior of the room allocated to us. it was having a TV, small fridge, study table and chair. dining chairs and table nice queen size bed and microwave oven induction plates to cook and utencils and well decoretd rooms with lap etc.
it was just 5 mins by walk, away from the mulbogator (sorry from misspell :()) tram station. and 15 mins by walk from the post gallerie.

We opted long stay so we got the hotel cheaper 55 EURO appox but the normal price was 108 EURO/day.

The hotel is equuiped with swisscom wifi but you need to buy its a bit expensive. We bought a 102 EURO business conection which was valid for a month with very nice aprox 32 MBPS speed. this also covers call to landline in india and whole world free calling. that was mazing. my wife used to call to hone in india to parent and her friend when I used to be in office :)

I will highly reccoment this for its suitability for family who wants to enjoy there own cooked food.

wish you a very happy stay:)

“Kitchenette coes out handy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

I was able to book a rate of about 45 euros which is a good deal. I stayed 2 nights and I liked it. However both the room and kitchenette are small and and there is not much room for food items. The tv has many channels altough the signal can be lousy. Check in was in a seperate building and I found the staff friendly. If you want internet on your laptop then it's 6 euros for one hour or 10 euros for 24 hours. I believe there is an internetcafe nearby. There is a REWE supermarket opposite the hotel on Hans Sachs strasse. The hotel is not far from the citycentre. But it is far from the main railwaystation. The nearest tramstop is Mühlburger Tor which is a 8-10 minutes walk from the hotel.
