“Experience to cherish in Heidelberg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

I went to Germany in July 2010 for the German Formula 1 grand prix to be held in Hockenheim. After a lot of research, I zeroed in on the Dubliner in Heidelberg. I must say the experience blew me away. Imagine living on top of a irish pub !!! The staff were very friendly and especially after a long flight to Germany & then a road trip to heidelberg, I was welcomed with a refreshing local beer. Rooms were small but extremely cozy and the ambience was superb. The pub is located on the main Haupstrasse in Heidelberg and being a small town, is walkable distance from most places of interest and transportation is decent. I didn't eat much at the hotel except for Pub grub on a few nights which was good. I stayed in the 'suite' which was more roomy than the others. This ain't the place for you if you're looking for all amenities and comforts/luxuries. This is a great place with a great atmosphere with great folks running it.

“Perfect location and nice price. Nothing else...”

The location of this property is just perfect, on the beautiful main pedestrian street. I wrote property and not hotel, because its not a hotel, but some rooms above a pub.
There is no reception and you are checking in at the pub. But the pub opens at noon, so if you arrive early there is no place to leave your luggage, you just walk around the streets currying them. When the pub opens, you discover that there is no elevator and you have to curry them a little more, up the stairs.
And then you enter your room, and... it is so small that there is no place to put your suitcase. So you leave it on the floor and every time you need something, you put it on the bed. The bed was very small, but that was not the only problem during night, as the pub stays open until late, making sleeping very hard. Also, there was only one bedside table and the shower's door was broken.
The rooms was clean, the heating was good, but it has no view. Wi-fi has a very weak signal and needs a password.
During check-in they told us that there is an 10% discount at the pub for rooms guests, but we didn't go. We also had no breakfast, because we believe that 25 euro for breakfast is a rip off.
The price was really nice for Heidelberg standards, but now I can see why...

“The stay was a marvelous "all around" experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

Stayed @ the Dubliner Heidelberg Hotel for ten days and we all had a blast.
Great atmosphere and an unbeatable location to sum it up. Hotel, bar, restaurant and quaint beer garden all in one.
Owner and staff exceeded expectations with any requests that we may have had, i.e., booking a tour, various outings, getting around, etc.. Myself and three friends were visiting from San Diego and simply had an unforgettable time. In short, it is "the place" to stay and you'll get good value for your dollar. We're plannng a return visit soon and can't wait! Thanks again for a terrific stay!

“A great Pit Stop if you go to the Hockenheim Grand Prix...in beautiful city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

Suited us perfectly. We went to the German Grand Prix - a 40 minute train journey from Hockenheim.
The location was excellent, think you would struggle to find anywhere with a more central location. Excellent cafes and restaurants and I think I found the best coffee shop in the world!! Heidelberg is definitely a place to stay and visit. So much to see and the shops are great - as is the archtecture and the Castle! The room was simple, but very clean, the bed was massive and very comfy. Everyone we dealt with in the Bar was great, and you get 10% discount of drinks and food.. We ate in there one night, and it was really very good! They also provide free wi-fi which was really useful.
We wanted to come and go as we pleased, and the Dubliner suited us perfectly for that.
You need to be fit! You climb a stone staircase up at least two flights.. didn't bother us at all.. our room was at the back of the hotel, and we didn't have any noise at all from the bar or the streets..

“GREAT location, BEST rate, NOISY nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

You are not likely to beat the location and price of the Dubliner. Within a 5 to 10 minute walk of everything you will want to see in the Old City and this is a great location to visiit for 2-3 days. Nice rooms great cafes and restaurants all around (with decent prices too!) Our only caveat would be the noise level from the street which on our Monday visit did not quieten until 3:45 AM. Add the quarter-hour and hourly church bell tolls from the nearby church and you would be best off asking for one of the Dubliner's back rooms off of the street. If you are young, just get to bed late and drunk and the noise will never be a concern. All said, I would stay here again. Art
