We were very happy with Pension Jeske! Martin Pfeffer's service (and English) was superb, friendly and accommodating. Martin is a one-man operation and is not at the hotel all the time, so you need to be somewhat self-sufficient. The pension is authentically 250 years old and has a lot of charm. Rooms were small, as one would expect for a one-star hotel, especially one so centrally located, but they were clean and comfortable. Common bathroom and shower was clean and stocked, with good pressure and water temperature. The weather was unseasonably hot and humid and there is no airconditioning (almost no one has it) - a room fan would have been a good addition. We faced the street, which was a little noisy with occasional morning construction, but you could get a non-streetside room. No breakfast is offered on-site, but many cafes are nearby. The location could not be better: 1/2 block from the Hauptstrasse, Marktplatz and the Heiliggeistkirche, 2 blocks to the funicular to the castle (which is also the bus stop from the train station), 5 min walk to the Old Bridge. We had a triple room which was not easy to find in other hotels. We were out and about all day long and so opted for a budget hotel to provide bed and shower only. All in all I thought it was a great value for 75 Euro a night. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a centrally-located, budget hotel.
