“A Home Away from Home”

We stayed at the Hackteufel for a total of about 10 days in December. My husband, 18-year-old daughter and I were in Heidelberg to visit our son, who is studying there at the University this semester. Perfectly located in the heart of the Altstadt, a half block from the Alte Brucke (Old Bridge), the Hackteufel was a friendly, comfortable place to come home to after a day of sightseeing and shopping. The staff could not have been more welcoming and hospitable. The restaurant is wonderful--and popular among the locals, which tells you something. We enjoyed our breakfast there each day and also had dinner there a few times. The apple streudel is to die for! The only downside to the Hackteufel is that on weekend nights, streetside rooms are rather noisy. On our last visit to Heidelberg (several years ago), we stayed at der Europischer Hof, which is very posh, but a lot more expensive and not as well located. We would gladly return to the friendly, family-style Hackteufel if we have the chance!

“Perfect Romantic Christmastime Hideaway”

For our one-night stay, we were given the room "under the sky" (room 12), which had a beautiful view of the Heidelberg rooftops and the castle. The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic getaway---from the gabled and beamed ceilings to the spacious bed---and the location is perfect--less than a minute from the Weinachtsmarkt, and only minutes from almost every other site worth visiting. My recommendation---try the pumpkin soup at the Hotel restaurant! It was one of the culinary highlights of our brief stay in Heidelberg. My only regret? Not having another two or three days at Hackteufel!

“Christmas Market wonderland”

Heidleburg is lovely- easy train journey direct from Frankfurt airport- not as crowded as we expected and a selection of wonderful Xmas markets and shops.

The hotel is maybe a little pricey but for some reason we were given the amazing room 8 which is a massive suite with its own terrace. Great room- great experience. Breakfast was typical continental- cheese and meat - but high quality. We ate in town but the hotel restaurant looked good- very welcoming

“Perfect”

The Gasthaus Hackteufel was an amazing experience from start to finish. The service was amazing, very friendly and very helpful. Our room was very clean and just beautiful. We had the most amazing view overlooking the red roofs of Heidelberg and Heidelberg castle up on the hill. Just a 2 minute walk form the old bridge, we had the perfect location by which to explore the town. A beautiful breakfast awaited us in the morning, and both breakfast and dinner were fantastic. Loved every minute of my stay and would recommend it to anyone!

“Loved our stay at Hackteufel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

We spent two nights at the Hotel Hackteuful with our 11 and 9 year old. The location is excellent- on a very quaint street that is filled with out door dining tables. Our room was great- very large. clean and comfortable. Our room was on the second floor facing the street and we slept wonderfully- the outdoor noise didn't bother us at all. There isn't air conditioning in the room and the hotel provided a fan because it was very hot outside while we were there. The fan kept the room comforable. The staff was nice and the breakfast was good. We loved Heidelberg, it's the lovliest town I've ever seen. We rented bikes around the corner and had a great bike ride along the Neckar, did a Neckar cruise and hiked up to the castle. We ate at various resteraunts/cafe's and they were all good.
