I stayed at the Guesthouse with my mother-in-law and my husband for a few days in December during the Christmas Market season.
Most important thing first, the reception desk is not manned after 8pm. Be aware of this as you will not be able to reach reception by phone should you find it hard to locate the place for example.
This said, we arrived in the evening around 10pm and had no problem getting in. Once you have called or emailed the hotel to let them know about your late arrival, they give you a 4 digit code in order to retrieve your key at the door.
The hotel is located about 15-20 minutes' walk from the main train/bus station and about 10-15 minutes' walk from the city centre. It is located in a residential street so it is very quiet at night while still being close to everything.
The room we were given was a room with 2 double beds, which was nice. It had fantastic high ceilings and was located on the first floor as I had requested a room easy to access for my mother-in-law (there is no lift, only stairs to access the rooms). The room was very spacious and very comfortable. It featured a great plasma TV, ample storage units and a great bathroom with floor heating and a top-notch shower.
The only negative bit, as mentioned by another reviewer, is the main door of the room: a fair amount of light from the hallway came into the room as the door did not fill the door frame as such. It is also true that you can hear some of what is going on above your room as all rooms have got wooden floors, but this was not a problem for us.
The breakfast was a buffet-style breakfast with diferent types of bread, juices, cereals, yoghurts, cold meat and cheese. You are offered tea or coffee at the table once sat.
The breakfast is served in a really nice common-room, decorated in the German style with cuckoo clocks and other trivia. There is also a veranda where you can sit for breakfast; the veranda is open in the summer and you can have your breakfast there too, which is really great.
In the same common-room, there is a computer with Internet that any guest can use. This is indeed very convenient.
The staff was really nice, they all spoke English, which is great, as my husband and I spoke just enough German to get by, which really was not enough.
Overall we had a nice stay at the hotel. The price was really reasonable (compared to the other hotels on offer in town) and I would be happy to stay there again should we go back to Heidelberg.
