I have stayed in Marriott properties all over the United States and Europe and find I even look forward to sleeping in their beds. This property, despite being a full service Marriott, was pretty outdated and had horrible beds that actually kept me awake most of the night. It was very hard and had a large lump in the middle with sloping sides. After a day of walking all over beautiful Heidelberg, it was pretty disappointing to be uncomfortable all night. This hotel is about a 13 minute walk from the train station which was convenient for us, however it is a good 30-40 min walk from the old town. We were aware of the distance and are used to taking public transportation so we used the number 22 tram to Bismarkplatz without any trouble. We get free breakfast with our Mariott status so we were able to eat the Sunday brunch which was very nice and had a large variety of items. I'm not sure how breakfast is usually served but brunch was delicious. There was water damage in the executive lounge so they had an alternative room being used instead, however there wasn't the standard fare offered. This might only be due to the temporary renovation. We ended up having dinner at the Globetrotter due to our other plans changing and having a 10% off coupon with the Heidelberg card. It was just OK but pretty much what I expected from a hotel restaurant. One warning for those not used to a strong sardine taste with Caesar salads don't order one here. It was very strong, however that technically is how a Caesar is supposed to be prepared. This was a good value for the money, however I think the beds might actually make me think twice about staying there again. If you have no trouble sleeping, and are ok with taking a tram to the city center, then this would be a nice place to stay. Very quite and excellant staff.
