We decided on the fly to go to Heidelberg and could only get hotels listed via Google. We ruled out a couple of others due to price levels and another two because we knew we were arriving late and some would not have an open reception at the time of our arrival. This one had listed that 24h check-in was possible. To our surprise it turned out that the reception wasn't manned, we had to enter a code to get our key, but then we were left to ourselves with no possibility of buying parking tickets, and no place to leave the car legally, no access to internet for which we would have to pay EUR 5 anyway.
Our room faced the street but the curtains couldn't keep the grim light out. The room was cold and even after a night of heavy heating it was still uncomfortable. The heater in the bathroom was dusty and this is where our towels were hanged. The bed linen felt very worn and the interior and decoration in general was very daggy.
The selection of food at the breakfast was actually very good for such a small hotel, but the food wasn't fresh.
All in all, the room was not at all that cheap, taking the EUR 5 for a much needed internet connection and a parking fine into account.
