Nice, close to train stn (15 min walk), safe area, friendly, 30 min walk to old town. Passable buffet breakfast.

Pro's: Close to train station and tram stop. Very clean. Room was new and nice, just not fancy. Good value- 68 Euro/night. Nice views of river. Helpful staff. Breakfast was good- 6.50 each.
Con's: Location- Not close to any attractions or shopping.

If I had to do it again I would see what I could find closer to the center of town. The hotel itself was good, and a good value, I just wish it was closer to everything we wanted to see.

This is my third hotel stay in Heidelberg. For Heidelberg this is an inexpensive hotel. The location is convenient for visiting the historic city center; it is walking distance from the main train station (I walked it with a rolling suitcase), and half a block from a streetcar line to/from the city center that runs late into the night. My room was spotless and reasonably well appointed. I requested a room away from the street and it was quiet. The staff were friendly and unpretentious.

I can only think of two potential complaints, which may or may not be important to you. First, my room (a single), although perfectly comfortable, was tiny, barely bigger than the bathroom (think Manhattan budget hotel), right under the roof with just a skylight. Just enough room for the bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe. I don't care much about this because I'm out and about in Heidelberg from morning to night. Second, the immediate neighborhood is dull (located between the railroad and some small industrial businesses). The nearest restaurants are an American-style diner and a McDonald's. Again I don't really care, you may feel differently.
