Very clean, professionally managed 4 star hotel.

Front offices and other services staff arev very polite and forthcoming.

Highly recommended for the commercial traveler.

The Stadt hotel is NOT in the center of Freiburg. You have to walk at least 20-25 minutes at steady pace through a non-descript neighborhood to get to the historic center. There is also a city bus that runs until about midnight. The hotel itself is modern, clean and functional, nothing more. The halls and rooms look like a high-quality university dormitory. My room had pre-Ikea Ikea-style furniture. The bed was comfortable enough, everything worked in the bathroom, and there's a hairdryer and safe. You won't suffer in anyway staying here, it's just not very charming, it's totally forgettable, and it's not convenient for tourism. There may be something in the neighborhood to explain why the hotel is where it is, but I didn't notice. The staff seemed perfectly pleasant, but I never needed anything from them. The breakfast spread is good, but nothing special for Germany.

We didn't have a great experience at the hotel. Our children's bedroom smelled of dampness, the lady at the reception was least helpful - she hung up when we called to complain. There was a friendly gentleman who reassured us and promised to give us a new room the next day. We did get a new room but not before the same lady gave us an access card to a room which already had a guest!! Imagine our surprise when we opened the door to find the room was occupied.

This is a modern type, no frills hotel - I think for business travellers. expensive internet, not much of a breakfast, no air conditioning, small bathrooms and nothing special in it. They do have coffee/tea making facility in the room, but you got to pay 10 euros to use these! Definitely a 2 or 3 star hotel.

On the plus side, the other rooms we got were clean, there is a bus stop just outside the hotel to get to town and they have friendly staff in the restaurant.

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at the Stadt Hotel. It made a perfect place to stay in Freiburg. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. I understand they speak about 3 languages each. You are right next to the University and a short easy bus ride to the Old City if you don't want to drive.Freiburg is a great town to experience all that's good about Germany and by staying at the Stadt it put us in great frame of mind.Plus they put on a beautiful buffet breakfast which adds to putting you in an excellent mood for the day.
