The Mercure Panorama is a dated hotel on a hill overlooking Freiburg. The views are spectacular but the rooms are small and the bathrooms incredibly small. The staff were very friendly and courteous and the food at the restaurant was good (not great). The rooms were incredibly hot and other than to open a window in December, I could not figure out how to completely turn off the heater. I turned it down as low as it would go and the room was still far too hot for a good night's sleep.

As I stated, the hotel is located on a hill overlooking the city. Consequently, you cannot walk to the city and are required to take a taxi. The cost to get to the city was 12 Euro each way...

On check in, the clerk at the front desk did not recognize my A-club Platinum membership benefits which is supposed to give me an upgraded room at the very least. The hotel was relatively empty so it should not have been a problem.

I would most likely not stay at this property a second time.

Yes it’s dated by trendy modern standards - but it surpasses the majority of hotels we visit in the UK by a very comfortable margin.

The rooms, though a tad worn around the edges, are clean, warm, inviting, and scrupulously clean with crisp white bed linen, dressing gowns and slippers. The rate we got this time was very good indeed and included the best breakfast you will find anywhere – quality, quantity and served by immaculate, polite, enthusiastic staff.

Parking can be a bit tight – but that is true anywhere – and the view is excellent – so long as you don’t look too closely at the graffiti-covered buildings in the town centre. The walks out of the front door are excellent too …

Our evening meals here have varied over the years from excellent – to mediocre and back to excellent – and again served by immaculate, polite, enthusiastic staff who are a real credit to the hotel.

They should run courses for all other hotels in how to look after guests.

Can’t and won’t fault it on this visit – though I don’t like fluorescent pink!!

Top arear, very nice place. On this hotel every thing i ok, good pool arear, nice wine list and a good restaurant, way over normal european level. Prices is good valeu and I would return next time I´m around.

I arrived in darkness and left in fog so I can't comment on the scenic view but with the hotel located on top of Freiburg and knowing the area it must be great.
If you come by car make your your sat nav is working finding it is not too bad as there're plenty of signs but the way out in the mist was a bit tricky.
The hotel and rooms are very good but nothing special. Very special is the restaurant Chez Eric which serves some fantastic food and has a very great team. Not the cheapest but well worth it. Bar/lounge area is also very nice and they have a good choice of local and French wines, brandys and spirits.
Not so great is the price of breakfast at EUR 17 which I skipped because of the price. I don't mind paying this amount for a Sunday breakfast but for a breakfast with limited time being on a business trip a cheaper alternative would be helpful.
Considering that most smaller hotels/B&Bs offering free Wifi I am asking myself why most chains are still tryingt to rip off their customers which is the same here - Wifi charges are not 21st century like.
