“Really wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. Sparkling clean room at the back of the hotel, which I specifically requested as I wanted a quiet room. Fantastic location, nice breakfast and comfortable beds -- what more can you ask for? It's not a luxury hotel, but it was very very nice. I have been coming to Baden Baden for 5 years, and now this is one of my favourites. I asked for a quiter room in the back, and it was fine, but if you had to keep the window open, you would hear the heating. Apart from that, everything was great.

“We were lucky to find somewhere, well...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010 via mobile

We were lucky to find somewhere, well located and good value late on a wet afternoon. The tourist information bureau found this place for us. It was generally clean but unfortunately was let down by a dirty bathroom floor in one of the two rooms we had. It is quaint and in great location for Baden Baden centre only a short walk to spa. Parking was a problem as we had a campervan that wouldn't fit in height restricted car parks.

“Can't Believe this Isn't Ranked Higher”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

This was our favorite stop on in our 18 night European Christmas adventure.

The hotel is adorable and close to everything in town. there is a great Lowenbrau beer garden right across the street and the spas are just a 5 minute walk away. If yo're there durign Christmas season, the Christmas market is close too.

We were there when it was absolutely freezing (10F), and it was still great.

We bought one of the 2-night package deals from the Baden-Baden tourism website and that got us free admission to the spas, free admission to the casino (but wer a tie and a jacket) and a couple free slices of cake. It was less 200 Euros for the whole package.

The front desk spoke English well enough (way better than we spoke German) and they were a great help.

The room was actually bigger than many others we've stayed in and overlooked the beautiful snow-covered, street below as it was all lit up with holiday lights. It was pretty cool.

If you're on a budget and you liek staying in traditonal, old-time hotel, this is the best place ever.

“This is the part of our trip we always talk about.”

Krilon's review of the Alte Laterne "Third Time", besides being an excellent travel review, is also the reason I booked this hotel. And I'm happy to confirm first hand that it was incredibly spot on.

My girlfriend and I stayed in Room 31, and while not the poshest room we stayed in on our trip, it was the most charming. It was a simply put together room with an efficient washroom and a small refrigerator, but the real attraction was the flowered balcony overlooking the street traffic and the biergarten across the way. Actually, most of the time we spent in the room was on that balcony sitting and smoking and drinking beer from the mini bar. The breakfast spread was definitely worth the extra cost if for no other reason than to sit in their pleasant dining room and watch the locals go about their business in the early morning through the large window facing the cobblestone street.

My girlfriend and I would highly recommend both Caracalla Therme and Friedrichsbad spas. Between the room and the spas and the general charm of the town, our two night stay in Baden Baden was the highlight of our entire trip to Germany. Even if it's out of your way, I would recommend putting in the extra effort to stay at the Alte Laterne.
