“Be careful. Fraudulent hotel!”

We decided to spend the honeymoon in this hotel and made the reservation through booking.com. On this site this hotel is classified as 5 stars hotel and rated as Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The average price for the night is 300 Euro per room.

In fact, it is hardly 3 stars hotel with the unclean hands management and very, very overpriced.
Be careful, they wrote-off a significant amount from our credit card in 2 hours after we checked out using the data of a credit card kept in the credit card terminal and of course without our authorization, confirmation and even notification.
The interesting thing is, we did not even sign any documents related to this transaction and even do not have a terminal receipt.

Once we checked in (it was at about 23 pm), we became very disappointed.
The floor of the hotel is squeak and leaving its own life (our camera felt from the table and was broken while we were walking inside the room), all furniture and items in the room, including linens are unclean and terrible smelled, our sleepers and trousers were colored in red color because of old red carpet (even up to now we cannot wash this color out), permanent problems with hot water and so on.
Under such circumstances of course we left the hotel in 2 days after we checked in.

Also, be attentive, the same rooms are sold for different price (there are 16 rooms in the hotel at all); there are no any additional accommodation bonuses in case of more expensive room.

Dear Guest,
as per our confirmation, you did have a cancellation deadline which you did not keep. Please understand that we as a hotel must plan our occupancy and if you depart upon short notice and we cannot resell the room, then charges may occure. But, we even offered you full compensation of those charges for a future stay which you also turned down. Until your checkout you seemed very happy with your room, we even upgraded you due to your honeymoon. You never mentioned any problems during the first 3 nights. It is unfortunate that you now seem to use this platform with false information as a way to punish us as a hotel for the cancellation charges. That is not fair. We wish you all the best.

“Overrated- lots of stairs- great location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

The Bell Epoque is a classy hotel, however, if you are looking for modern day comfort, this hotel is overpriced and tight on space in the standard rooms. We were shown to our room on the 2nd floor (which was more like 3 full flights) and the only available room at the hotel at the time we arrived. Walking up 3 flights of stairs at these prices is not called luxury in my standards. The service (butlers) are at your beck and call, but if you are not the sort to call room service and heavily tip, every time you need something, it was a real pain.
The double bed was located near the wall so that you had to climb over your mate to get out of bed. The bathroom was modern, but standing room only, really tight for a 5 star hotel. You could not turn around while standing at the sink and there was no bath.
The attraction for us was the great breakfast and tea time that was inclcuded in the price. The food and service was royal. The ambiance in the sitting room, was very relaxing and romantic. The grounds are magnificent and located really close to where all the action is in Baden Baden.

“mixed bag considering the roomrates !!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2010

The hotel isn't far away from the town center. It has a beautiful large garden and a nice terrasse.

We booked a familly room which turned out to be two junior suites with a connecting door. Rooms had very nice classic decoration and furniture with all the necessary equipments and services. Staff was polite and helpful.

The hotel's surroundings are pretty quiet but you could sometime hear noise from the other rooms.

There was no elevator and we had to walk a lot of stairs to reach to our room.

The hotel's parking lot isn't large enough for all the visitors and there were some miscommunication issues regarding where some car had been moved/parked.

Last but not least there is no restaurant inside that hotel but at the sister hotel just across the street. I skipped dinner but my familly members ate there. There were hugely disappointed, by the food, wine, and service. Breakfast was good though, but nothing to blow you away.

“Relax in charming luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2009

We spent 2 nights here in just before Christmas when the hotel was relatively quiet. Whilst it does not have a lift, the hotel more than makes up for this with character, comfort and service.

The bedroom was beautifully furnished and the bed very comfortable. Whilst the bathroom wasn't huge and had a shower rather than a bath, it had everything we needed and was very clean.

The living room and dining room were also beautifully furnished with lovely views of the garden. As we were there for Christmas, there were also decorations which made it extra special. We loved sitting by the fire, having our complementary afternoon tea and reading our books. The breakfast buffet was extensive, very good quality and hot items cooked to order.

But what really stood out was the service which was polite, professional and attentive. It really did add something special.

It is not cheap to stay here but we felt that the service and the quality of the hotel were excellent and that overall, it was good value for money.

  • Liked — Afternoon tea by the fire
  • Disliked — nothing
