I always laugh at people who post comments about hotels in Europe being old, small or near a church with bells. It's difficult in Europe to have a property that isn't at least two of those things. This hotel was all three, but I thought it was very charming. I thought my room was plenty big. It had a king bed, a wardrobe, a nice bathroom with shower and a seating area with a table.
The staff was extremely nice and happily spoke English to my very broken German. It's a cab ride from the train station (sorry, can't remember how much), but it's just a 5 minute walk to downtown and then another 5 minutes to both spas. I thought the location was perfect.
I prepaid for the gourmet dinner at the restaurant for both nights because I knew I would be recovering from jet lag and wouldn't want to go out. The meal was a little pricey, but not for what it really was - gourmet food. It was absolutely fabulous. And the staff made me feel so comfortable even sitting by myself at the table.
Baden-Baden is a charming little place and the spas are fabulous. I would start my Europe trip with a stay there and at this hotel any time.
