Since this hotel was rated very highly in the travel guide books, we expected a fairly upscale, attractive place. What we found was a rather gloomy, old establishment in need of refurbishment. If you enjoy antiques, and the feel of a century past, you make find this place attractive, but we did not. To their credit, the staff changed our booking to their sister property, the Belle Epoque, which we found quite satisfactory.

This hotel is very romantic and unique in that each room has a different design. We opted for a family room as we were travelling with our young baby. The room was very spacious and the hotel staff were most obliging. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is a little walk from the centre of town however not too far. There is a church right next door with bells chiming regularly so keep this in mind when you book. The breakfast was excellent. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here.

Great location, truly friendly, great breakfast and free afternoon tea included; every room unique and charming. In a perfect world such a hotel would also be cheap; alas not so but we felt value was good for the wonderful experience.

Our trip to Baden-Baden was sort of a last-minute thing, so I picked the hotel largely based on location and price. What can I say, we lucked out.

I was a bit concerned that "The Little Prince" theme would make me want to gag (I mean, cool book, but c'mon), however, the only LIttle Prince motifs were paitings in the halls and one in our room, which was on the top floor, comforable and spotless. The beds were really nice too.

We had a skylight in our bathroom and a nice, deep soaking tub (in case you're not in town to hit the baths...). Toiletries are basic -- soap and shower gel, so if you can't live without moisturizer, bring your own. Everything else is there -- TV, minibar, etc. And if you forget to bring an adaptor, as I did, the front desk will loan you one. How nice is that?

Parking is just around the corner (16 Euros a night) and you won't really need a car in town. Baden-Baden's center is a 5-minute walk away from the hotel, with lots of cafes and shops to check out. 10 minutes will get you to old churches, the Roman baths and the public baths for which the city is so famous. You'll need a swimsuit for the baths and if you want to enjoy the saunas, you'll have to go totally nude -- no towel. The baths are amazing, though, and if you can, check them out.

Okay, back to the hotel: Wifi is free, but the signal was weak in our room. However, there's a lounge area you can use, where the signal is strong. They also have a computer for guests to use. The desk staff are lovely and know everything about the area.

The breakfast buffet was nice and typical of European hotels -- hard-boiled eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, granola, yogurts, etc.

Note: If you have mobility issues or have a lot of luggage, the elevator doesn't go to the top --5th -- floor. You take it to the 4th and take the steps up. Also, church bells chime early and often so if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.

We weren't bothered by the issues above and honestly, had a lovely time.
