“An excellent hotel”

We have just returned from a weekend skiing in Val d'Isere and stayed at the Kandahar which was lovely. It is very traditional and alpine in style and is in an amazing position. Our room was more than large enough with a nice large bathroom. The breakfast was really good and we will return again next year - what better recommendation can you give!

Great central location in this top ski resort. Staff particularly helpful and friendly. The restaurant is our favourite in the resort. Comfortable rooms. Highly recommended.

“Very pleased....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

We stayed at Kandahar for a week in February 2010 and we were very pleased. The location is quite nice, the room that we had was quite large for a couple....I was not too happy with the fact that the toilet was in a separate room and not in the bathroom....I enjoyed the overall architecture of the building and the interiors....Highly recommended....

“Superb hotel with excellent location in Val D'isere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

This was our second visit to the hotel Kandahar and our experience was even better than our first stay two years ago. The hotel is really well refurbished and incredibly clean. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony that over looked the main high street. It was a really good size with a comfortable double bed, twin sink bathroom and plenty of room for all our ski equipment. There's also a substantial sized boot room to leave your equipement drying over night. The buffet breakfast was also very good, fresh patisserie, cereal and fruit. The hotel also has a sauna and turkish bath which we had to ourselves most evenings and gave much relief to our tired legs after a hard days ski.The hotel's restaurant is one of the best in Val D'Isere in terms of value for money, good food, wine and excellent ambiance. We also ate at La Luge which does the best cheese fondue! We would definitely stay here again and hope to return very soon.

“Highly Recommended, Fantastic Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2010

Just returned from a stay at The Kandahar for a week and we have to say that we couldn't praise it enough. We have stayed at many 3* hotels in various ski resorts but this is definitely more of a 4*. We booked a Junior Suite room since we wanted a balcony (due to that smoking habit). It was extremely clean and spacious, with a double sink and powerful shower, with plenty of hot water non-stop. The room was also at the side of the building so noise of an evening from outside was minimal - just the odd drunk now and again which you would get anywhere. The staff were absolutely brilliant - and ALL OF THEM. Nothing was a problem for them, and they went out their way all the time to be of help/assistance.

Breakfast was good with cereals, fruit, ham, cheese, croissants, pain au chocolats, copious amounts of bagettes and the option to have eggs cooked how you like them (extra cost note - 1 euro for boiled egg and 3 for scrambled).

The decor was really well presented with lots of leather sofas, soft furnishings etc like on its website, and the boot room through the entrance was really good. Location-wise it is right in the heart of Val D'Isere, so everything is on your doorstop basically, with a busstop 20 yards from the front door to travel to other ski lifts, with a 5 minute walk up a hill to the main Val lifts.

We only discovered its own restaurant downstairs a couple of days before we left, which was a shame really since the food was excellent, and the atmosphere really nice - and of course, the service was impeccable once again. Recommend the steak bearnaisse medium rare if you like it rare at home.

The one and literally only negative we found to be was the pillow situation. As standard you get 2 little square pillows that are flat as pancakes, and therefore we found this quite uncomfortable. So we asked reception in the morning if we could have a few more, and ended up with 6 - and this was absolutely fine.

We would definitely book it again when we revisit Val in a couple of years and highly recommend it begrudgingly - since we don't want it to get booked up next time!!!
