We've just come back from a week at the foret hotel and were really pleased with our stay. The staff, food and location are excellent and can't be faulted, especially for the value of the hotel. As some have mentioned in previous reviews there is a strange (and slightly unpleasant) smell in the stairwell and the wellness suite but it does not affect the rooms or the bar/ restaurant. There is free wifi in the reception and bar which isn't mentioned in the brochures and there is an excellent ski hire fire attached to the hotel which is good. The rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious and clean - ours had a bath with shower over (although I would suggest the spend a few pounds in each room and add a stand up shower attachment so you don't have to hold it!). Simple to do and makes a big difference. Also for the ladies - you need to pack your own hair dryer!! I would definitely go back to the Foret, Val is a very expensive resort and the place offers excellent value for money!

If not for the amazing food at night, this is a VERY basic hotel. The food was great, and the staff very friendly, but the rooms are very small with no fridge, hairdryer, safe or kettle. It is more like a hostel. The noise is also a problem with the bar downstairs open until the early hours of the morning, as well as noise from the slamming doors within the hotel itself. Never an uninterrupted nights sleep. The only heat/cooling control is to open and close the door, so again, some hot unpleasant nights sleep. Our tv was broken the entire time despite the staff saying they would get someone to fix it. For the money though, it is very central, the food is good, and it is clean, but be warned there are no frills. We will not be going back.

Hotel La Foret, room 203 as we where given:
A. The room was so small that not a single chair was available, we either had to stand or sit in the bed
B. Non of the draws could be moved in/out to fit clothing
C. No air conditioning, or fans what so ever, causing the room to bee either hoot or cold since a open window was the only way of removing moist/heat
D. TV set with only French channels, this speaks for it self
E. TV set placed just under the roof that made it impossible to watch without standing, since it was not possible to move it either left or right, up or down.
F. We had to ask (pick our self) for the following
a. Toilet paper
b. Soap and shampoo
c. Towels, that we later found out in the written information only was meant to be changed once a week!
G. From our original hotel booking at Grand Nord, we asked if it was possible to change to La Foret (that was fully booked at that time) simply because of the sauna facility. A few days upon departure we where told that a change to La Foret was now possible, but an additional charge of 1600 Skr. had to be paid simply because the sauna and bubble bath tub, which we did. Deem of our surprise when we where told that another 9,5 EUR/person/hour had to be paid if we should use the sauna.
H. The door between the bead room and toilet was impossible to close without slam shut it, simply because the door and frame did not fit
I. Finally but far the worse, it was simply impossible to get a decent 6-8 hour sleep during the night since the walls and door into the main hallway was without any sound isolation. Even as the light came on in the hallway it was reflected into the room. And as if this was not enough, when the other neighbouring guests either showered or flushed the toilet, the sound was so high it might as well been in our own room.

The hotel is lovely. The rooms are nice and warm But the balconies are covered in bird muck. You can smell the sauna when you enter but it's not bad. The food was Brilliant every night I loved it. For what we paid it was well worth it.
