We have just returned from a week at Val d'Isere and had some of the best skiing ever. Great village with lots of pubs and restaurants; excellent on mountain facilities with massive and fast lift systems. It will take you a good six days to ski across the runs available with terrain to suit all levels...fantastic skiing!!
The Alpina lodge on the other hand was very dissapointing. The web site for this lodge is nothing like the real thing. It is in the middle of the village and that can be the only reason it has a three star rating (equivalant to USA/Australia four star rating), with prices to suit. It is directly above a very busy pub and also a night club (goes to 2.00 a.m. every night with a street party until 3.00 a.m) It is impossible to sleep through this so we had no choice but to join in!!....after the second or third night though , it became very irritating. The apartment we had was one bedroom (probably the smallest I have ever seen) with two cot beds put together (barely a double), very small lounge with poor facilties. Kitchen was a small hole in the wall. No laundry facilitles. Over all the property was very tired but had a charming (and very deceiving) exterior. There is much better accomodation even closer to the lifts and at a lot more reasonable price.
