“nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2010

I stayed at Le Lac on two separate trips. Both times these were cycling trips. The location is great since there are many great places to ride in the area. First, the price is not cheap. This is because the euro is fairly strong AND this is a popular area and I stayed in high season. The location is quite nice since you are only two blocks from the lake and a short walk from a small cluster of shops and restaurants. There is free parking, but it fills up at times and then you have to park in the street. Our group all had bikes and the hotel let us keep them, and the travel cases, in their garage. This was nice as the rooms are not that big and a bike would have taken up a lot of space. We were initially concerned about leaving our bikes in the garage, but we had no issues. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and most, if not all, speak some english. Some of the staff was from Ireland so their english was not an issue. The rooms are ok, not great and not bad. The room I was in had a recently renovated bathroom. As someone else pointed it out, it was odd that the bathroom had a shower but there was only a small glass door that partially covered the opening. That meant you were guaranteed to get things outside the tub wet. The rooms do not have AC, but you don't need it. All you need to do is remember to close the shutters when you leave the room. Then the room would be hot when you get back. At night the temps don't get uncomfortably hot, so you can just leave the windows open. There were no mosquitos when I was there in July. The hotel has a restaurant. We mostly used it for breakfast, which was good if a bit pricey. We only had one non-breakfast meal during our stay. It was probably the best meal of the trip and I am sorry we didn't eat there more often.

“Le Lac provides good value in a very expensive town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

Due to the strength of the Euro and weakness of Sterling this year we searched for a budget hotel when visiting Talloires, and decided upon Le Lac mainly because it cost “Only” 150 Euros / night B&B. The French Alps and Lake Region is very expensive when compared to Austria, Italy and even Switzerland so we knew we were at the bottom end of the market. But in many ways Hotel Le Lac was a good choice.
The location was close to, but not on, the lake. Just a short walk up the hill from the pier. The pretty pool was a good size, and even if a little chilly had a nice lounging area. There was a bar/restaurant outside under the trees beside the pool and a nice atmosphere outside and around the pool and in the gardens. There was free parking all around the hotel, with enough spaces.
The economy showed itself in our room, which apart from the nice lake-view had little to recommend it. Bare walls, something like underlay on the floor, hard bed, and the feeling of something between a youth hostel and a detention centre. Okay, I exaggerate a little, but it was far from homely.
The ancient elevator broke down forcing us to carry all our luggage up and down 5 floors, and the staff were hard to locate, but friendly enough once tracked down.
We knew we were going for budget, and I’m glad we got the view and pool.
Talloires is a beautiful spot, but was quite underpopulated when we visited, and at the prices around I’m not surprised. We ate out and found that as soon as we left town and dined along the lake, it was better value and cheaper and indeed better food. Annecy nearby is great for a visit, one of the prettiest lake towns you will ever see.

“Lovely spot, friendly staff, good hotel and food”

We stayed in September 2009 and it is hard to find fault with le Lc (and we stay in a LOT of hotels). We stayed demi-pension and it was outstanding value bearing in mind that the food was also excellent. The views from our room were lovely.

Staff were v friendly (not always the case in France, even if you speak decent French). The only thing they got wrong was forgetting to add our bar bill to our account, which we sorted in minutes.

They also give you a card which allows oyu access to the beach, free tennis and mini-golf, kyaking etc etc.

I'd recommend le Lac to anyone.

“terrible disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

When we booked a 2 nights stay at the hotel, we were impressed about the hotel from the websites.....but the impression when we arrived was totally different!! The entrance/hall looked ok, but the room was very, very poor. We guess the rooms do not have been refurbished since the hotel was built ! No fan or aircondition. The floor was covered by a kind of rope, so it was impossible to walk without slippers/shoes. The mattress was horrible !! Impossible to sleep because the mattress has been used several years from thousends of guests, and shaped from this!! The interior was depressed. In the bathroom there was a bath-tub with shower on the wall, but no protection from the water to the floor. The whole bathroom was wet!! Outdatet bathroom!
A disturbing pub nearby also destroyed the night, we could not close the windows because of the heat. We stayed just one of the two nights, and that was one night too much! And we had to pay a part of the next night we have booked too.......even we left the hotel after just one...
