Summary A very friendly although slightly quirky, small hotel. Would happily stay here again as it is a find, offering great value, but not glamour!
Plusses
Friendly very helpful staff, who all speak excellent English.
Great location in Lyon’s classy shopping area – Cartier is down the street and all the big name labels are close by. Beware though – when people say the shops are closed on Sundays, they mean absolutely all of them! The old town, across the River Saone is a short 10-minute walk. Plenty of restaurants close by and the staff and owner were willing and generous with advice and information as to restaurants and sightseeing.
Secure off-street parking nearby (say 100 metres walk) but there is a one-way system! This operates via a discounted card-access system, available from the hotel and which we booked in advance. Upon arrival it is necessary to stop in the narrow street, operate the car’s hazard lights and get someone to come from the hotel and show the way to the car park. We have now travelled enough in France to know that this process (blocking the traffic) is accepted and does not cause (visible or audible) irritation and is passively accepted contrary to expectations!
Plentiful continental breakfast offering with jams, boiled eggs, cheese and charcuterie, although the coffee was a bit weak for my taste (yes, unusual in France!)
Great value
Secure, but slightly daunting as the building appears to be part apartments and there is a buzzer entry door on the ground (zero) floor with reception on the first floor. Entry to each floor is also via a locked door. Access is via a dreary staircase or the common European mini-lift for a maximum of 2 people.
Wi-Fi works reasonably well. Its the variety that requires a login number and a password number every time it is accessed, but it does work well and the hotel is generous in providing log-ins for multiple devices.
Tea and coffee making facilities available in room.
Minuses
Very dark hallway outside our room on the 3rd floor
No in-room safe
Old fashioned shower curtain arrangement over the bath.
Smallish room (no 34).

Hello, thank you for taking the time to write this detailed commentary. We are glad that you had a pleasant stay with us. Your comments have attracted our attention; we’ve changed the lighting system on the third floor to provide more light. Next time, don’t hesitate to try our “Suite Celestins” or the room “Roof’s of Lyon” which are larger . We look forward to welcoming you soon.
Warm regards
