“decent hotel in a nice neighbourhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

We stayed here for two nights. The first was pre-booked and was excellent value at 80 euros, reasonable size and facing street. We decided to return after our short trip to Switzerland. Only room available was a duplex outwith the main hotel, with downstairs living space with kitchen, and upstairs bedroom with shower. It was twice the price, more space than we needed for our brief stop, but would be excellent as a base for a few days, and therefore good value. Car parking was secure and reasonable at 12 euros per night. We didn't have breakfast on either morning, so can't comment.
Overall, I think this hotel represents good value for money, particularly having checked out a couple of others nearby before our second night, neither of which came close. Rooms have minor blemishes, but no real issues. Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly, including recommending a couple of good restaurants nearby. Hotel is located in a quiet street, in a nice, authentic area, with good individual shops yet only a 10 minute walk over the river to the bustling city centre.

“nice hotel in non-touristy location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

We spent 8 nights in the lone junior suite on the top floor of this down-to-earth, inelegant hotel in the 6th district of Lyon, away from tourists and about a 15 minute walk from the main tourist sites. Two metro (subway) stations are each located about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Management offered a decent discount for this extended stay. There are several good reasonably priced restaurants within a few blocks, at which we saw virtually no other Americans and very few tourists, plus at least 3 bakeries nearby so you can skip the overpriced breakfast buffet in the hotel. The hotel is a bit dated and tired, in the sense that the bedspread and carpeting in the halls and in the room were stained. The air conditioning worked moderately well, with 2 separate units and 2 sets of controls in the room. The 2 large windows have power shutters that make it nearly impossible to tell if it is day or night once they are closed. This is a good thing. The staff is very agreeable and accommodating. The bathroom is large but windowless and poorly lit, and as with so many European showers, the lack of a shower curtain made it almost impossible to avoid flooding the floor. The towels were threadbare and should be replaced. I would call this hotel no-frills and average-to-good. The flat screen TV is relatively small and far from the bed, from which we generally like to watch TV. They e-mailed me in advance to tell me that they have BBC on their cable system, but they did not. They did have CNN. We had medium expectations, and the hotel provided no surprises.

“Nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2009

Nice hotel. Lovely and cozy. The room was clean, breakfast was simple but had a good selection of cakes. Wi-fi Internet was available in the room for extra charge. Hotel personel speaks good English and was extremely helpful and friendly.

“Friendly staff make this hotel worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2008

We stayed for 2 days, including Bastille Day and found many favourable aspects:
1) Location is in a quiet residential area but ideally suitable for access to all main areas. A 10 minute walk will take you to most areas of interest and also to the train station (Part Dieu)
2) The staff were brilliantly helpful-we had some issues trying to get confirmation about a bus transfer to Grenoble and the reception staff all helped to sort it out.
3) While our first room smelt of cigarette smoke, we were changed to another room, without fuss
4) Night time was bliss-no street traffic of any significance and a comfortable bed
5) There is excellent off-street parking available

For value, this hotel is more than adequate for a short stay and any small shortfall is more than made up for by the happy atmosphere in the hotel

“Le Roosevelt.....Superior???”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

This hotel is 3 * and the room (no 47) was classed as superior. On arrival we were given the key and told it was on the fourth floor. The hotal did have a lift but it was full just with us two and two bags!
We found our room which was at the rear of the hotel overlooking a small car park with apartments opposite. As soon as I walk in I thought there had been a mistake with the booking. It reminded me of a basic travel lodge room (no offence meant). My impression of a superior room would be space to walk around, maybe a comfy chair to sit on rather than the bed or even a nice decor. The only thing good about it was that the bed was big. Another thing which bugs me is the overuse of blankets rather than a duvet, I'm fed up remaking the bed without them and just using the counterpane and the sheet!
The bathroom has all the usual stuff but the toilet was behind a small wall which itself was behind the door! The hairdryer was placed so far up the wall that I needed to stand on tiptoe to reach it ( I'm 5'6")! The overbath shower was badly needing the screw tightening as it kept drooping so you needed to hold it with your free hand when using the shower.
On enquiring about the room I was told that it was superior because it was at the rear! Why should anyone pay more just for a view of the car park? I normally pay more for little things that make your stay more welcoming and enjoyable.
The hotel is fine regards location and we found a few good local restaurants but given the choice I would not stay here.
