Perfect location with tram stop to Lyon Part Dieu station right outside (20 mins) and Lyon Perrache local station and metro station 5 mins walk away.
Staff incredibly helpful - speak good English if needed or will be patient / helpful / apppreciative when you try French.
Rooms rather small and the shower cubicles built for nobody larger than a small stick insect. Friend advised me to soap up before getting in so that one 'slides past the door obstacle'! That more or less worked!
No foreign language satellite tv - not even BBC world or CNN so tv useless if you don't speak any French!
Wifi somewhat unreliable I gathered from other guests I spoke with, and the pc for use in Reception the slowest I've ever encountered! If trying to use Facebook or email, you may find it tells you there's a problem with the certificate. Ignore that and say 'Continue anyway' before entering your passwords. I got totally locked out of fb and had to go to internet cafe near St Andre tram stop - lots near there - to get it unblocked. Think it may be because hotel has Orange connection fb tends to block them.
Word of warning - the rooms above ground floor level seem to slope to one side quite steeply which can mean that the beds also slope quite noticeably. That gave me quite a bad back because I was always walking or lying on a slope. Sounds silly but it is uncomfortable if you stay for 12 nights like I did! Still, it's in an old building so to be expected... The lift is also the tiniest I've ever seen and would only just take me and my suitcase if I sort of half sat on it. It's very claustrophobic and I feared getting stuck in it ...
Breakfast is ok but at 8 Euros, you can find better options out and about just through and beyond Perrache station.
Loved Lyon itself and travelled around the area a lot ,as far as Vienne, Le Puy en Velay, Annecy, Dijon, Grenoble and Chambery easily on trains from Part Dieu station. Well worth getting a combined transport ticket - E4.70 per day to get unlimited use of all city transport - Weekly option also available at about E48 I think. The open top bus tour from Place Bellcour is also a superb option and excellent value.
Will definitely go back and base myself there again as I didn't really scratch the surface of all there is to see and do. Fabulous shopping too!
Brilliant city! Superb transport! Great budget hotel option but don't expect mod cons or anything more than good clean basic - it was spotless.
