“Great hotel for price and Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Yes, as someone said, the entrance is behind the hotel. Who cares? It's well lite and safe.

There is no elevator and there is no help with luggage so be prepared. For this price and the location, I would not complain.

I paid just a few more dollars for a Superior room which came with a view of the Theatre. For a room in Europe at this price, the room was very big and bathroom was large. It was very clean and the location could not be better. About a block from the River and a few minutes from everything. If you want to use the city bicycles, you can rent one in front of the hotel.

There was a little bar on the corner by the river called Seven. Convenient at night for a quick drink and only a minute away. They spoke english and where very friendly. Gave me a poster they had on the wall I asked about and also helped me with restaurant recommendations. In fact, they recommended a restaurant below the hotel. (One the first floor of the same building as the hotel....the hotel is on the 2-4 floors.)

Lyon is a great city...have fun.

Room Tip: Steps.....ask for a room on the second floor if you have an issue.

“Couldnt be more central”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Stayed for three nights with my wife-The reception on the second floor with no lift (which we were aware of) seemed a long way with two heavy cases. The entrance is not on the lovely square but in a fairly grotty side street-the pictures are misleading.Continental breakfast was very good value.

Main plus the location -very central to all local sights but a 100 euro return trip from the airport .

Room was basic - but clean

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the square.

“Great location & value if you don't mind stairs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

I just recently returned fro a visit to Lyon, a beautiful French city, especially at night. The Hotel du Theater was recommended in a guide book. There is no lift and you have to walk two flights to reach the lobby and I had to walk two more flights up (4 total) to my room with 2 heavy suitcases and no help. The pluses for the hotel is that it is clean, and the location is terrific, right in the the center of the old town with a short walk to wonderful sites. The wireless is free. I did not pay for the Sunday morning breakfast of 6 euros for coffee, juice and bread. A travel tip: there are not many places opened on Sunday morning, so if you want breakfast, you may need to pay the price. The staff was nice about directions, etc.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the square in front of the theater

“Fantastic room with a veiw”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

We had a room with a veiw of the theatre, the room was large bright and airy, the bed was very comfortable and the staff were pleasant and helpful. All this and the price was excellant, beautiful location just a short walk from the old town. All hotels should be like this! Our only dissapointment..... we could only stop 1 night.

“Great hotel for a 1 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

This hotel is great for a one night stay. The location is ideal to access the tourist sights of Old Lyon. There is a large underground car park nearby which was easy to find driving in with limited directions and no sat nav and cost around €20 for 24 hours. The room was large enough and clean with 2 beds & bathroom and a fan provided which we needed in the heat. Less able travellers should be aware that there is no lift so at least 3 flights of stairs to climb but most people shouldn't find this a problem. I would recommend this for a short stay.
