My husband and I stayed her in June 09, room 603.Room was good and so was the bathroom excpet there is no shower screen over the bath to contain the water from your shower. We found some street noise, but definately not enought to keep you awake at night. Breakfast was good, and parking was free. It is behind the hotel, behind secure gates. The location is in the city centre, central to everything. This is the nicest Best Western hotel we have stayed in.

Stayed at Charlemagne after reading TA reviews, and was happy with the location (a train &/or tram ride from the TGV station I used though). The hotel was comfortable, but nothing special. Simple rooms (I was on top floor) perhaps reflect the low cost of the tariff, and may not be indicative of rooms on lower floors. The staff were very helpful explaining & booking my stay at my next town (at another Best Western). The tram meant that nothing was too far away. An OK choice for price & locale.

Valuable hotel in Lyon near the tourist area and good connection to the train station or airport. Lyon has new airport tram and it will bring you to the central station and you still need to take a tram T1 to the hotel. If you buy a tram ticket on the airport tram it's easier and cheaper.

No safe and no mini bar -1 point! but, downstairs bar sells water. WIFI free but, computer with internet use at the reception costs money. -1 point! Bath tub but no shower curtain so water is everywhere after each shower. Big bathroom and Big window which face to the back side and very airy. Bar is bit pricey and supermarket available not very far from the hotel. Bakery called PAUL available at the station and it's excellent!

Hotels in Lyon are little bit expensive what we didn't expected so it's recommended valuable range but, nothing special like best western general. :-)

The Hotel Charlemagne is within walking distance of the Saône river (5 min - cruise pier), Perrache train station (5 min - not really the main train station in Lyon, but still important), Place Bellecour (15 min - Tourist Office, Departure point for Le Grand Tour hop-on, hop-off bus located), and Vieux Lyon (20 min - Fourvière funicular that takes you up to N.D. de Fourvière cathedral). While the hotel is very well situated with respect to the tourist sites, the neighbourhood itself is a little seedy at night, especially if you are coming back very late and going through the Perrache station walkway (even though there is security personnel standing guard.) With respect to the hotel itself, it lives up to what one expects of the Best Western chain. Rooms are of a good size, clean, and well ventilated. The reception staff is very welcoming and are clearly intent on making your stay a seamless one. The only reproach, and it is a minor one, is the elevator - extremely tiny. Another piece of advice with respect to price...you can definitely get this hotel for 45% - 50% cheaper than the standard price. I paid only 52 euros/night (no breakfast) because I booked it through the SNCF website (at the same time I booked my train): www.voyages-sncf.com
