My wife and I have been staying here for over one month while we search for an apartment to live in. The room is well equipped and we have been quite comfortable here.
The negative aspects of this hotel are few and are easily overcome with the right attitude. There can be a lot of street noise at night on weekends because it is in the heart of a tourist district (rue mercière) with a lot of bars and restaurants, but our room is on the 7th floor so we don't notice it much. Parking can be a problem in this area, especially finding a place to park to check in to the hotel, so be warned. I received my first parking ticket in Lyon while trying to check in. The hotel charges an arm and a leg for parking, which is deep in the bowels of the hotel down a spiral drive on the -6 floor. I have to let my wife out of the car before parking because the ride down makes her nauseous. The hotel has a breakfast buffet for 9€, but grab a croissant at the boulangerie and make your own coffee because that is about all there is at the buffet. There is no restaurant in the hotel itself.
On the positive side, everything you need for an extended stay is close to the hotel. As noted, rue mercieère is right outside the front door and there are at least 20 restaurants to choose from. The rue de la republique, a major shopping district, is three blocks away. This pedestrian street has a lot of shopping opportunities and restaurants and a major super market (Monoprix) with groceries available on the -1 level. A Metro station (Cordeliers) is located just outside the Monoprix with access to line A. The Opera, Hôtel de Ville, and Place des Terreaux are all within a ten minute walk. Place Bellecour is a five minute walk from the hotel and has a Metro station for lines A and D. There is a market on the Quai Sainte-Antoine, one block east of the hotel, every weekend and we try to do the bulk of our food shopping there. You can cross the Saône from the Quai Sainte-Antoine and be in Vieux Lyon in five minutes. For bread, walk up (north) rue de brest to Boulangerie Paul. There is also a supermarket near Eglise Sainte-Nizier on rue mercière that is open on Sunday mornings (Monoprix, and most everything else, is closed Sundays).
In summary, the location of this hotel more than makes up for any minor inconveniences with parking or drunken singing on the weekend. I highly recommend it if you have to stay more than a week in Lyon.
