this was the worst place i have ever been to in my life....it was so bad that when we got to the tiny room, that reeked of smoke, me and my girlfriend spent 5 minutes formulating a plan how to leave and get our money back, so we pretended someone had died and had to leave...it was THAT bad.

We invested a great deal of time looking for places to stay on our 6 week trip to Europe. We were on a budget and carrying backpacks and mixed train travel with hiring rental cars. It was difficult to find a hotel in Grenoble and we settled on L'Hotel de l'Europe as it suited our budget, is central so easy to get to on the tram, had a good sized basic room with comfortable bed and a stunning view from the wee balcony. Booking directly with the hotel via email was hassle-free. We stayed one night in transit and were happy with our choice, although we would look again if we wanted to stay longer.

We also had no problems staying in this hotel. We were staying here as part of a month long bike trip round Europe so were being careful with the costs of hotels - but we definitely weren't just 'grateful for the hot shower' as a previous reviewer put it.

Reception was fine, and they found a space for our bikes with no hassle whatsoever. Our room was indeed small, and the bathroom was very small (which might be a problem if you were sharing with a colleague etc) but was absolutely fine for us. We also had a little balcony and a wonderful view over gorgeous Place Grenette. On that note, the hotel is brilliantly situated...we would stay here again simply on the back of the location.

Staff weren't overly warm but were polite and helpful at all times.

All in all, a good place to stay in Grenoble.

I saw the first two reviews, and decided I just had to write mine! Our four day stay at the Hotel de l´Europe was fabulous: spacious room with full bathroom, large bed, balcony overlooking the Place Grenette. Friendly people at the reception - leaving or picking up the key never took more than just seconds (...), free use of the sauna, hearty breakfast. Grand entree, monumental stair case, the plants - this romantic setting, for just 56 euros? Why do the grumpy travellers always do all the reviews? I really found it above average!
