“Central and useful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

It's a strange building, perhaps two or more old buildings amalgamated. There's a curious central staircase in a six-storey stairwell. On the first floor is a cage with five budgerigars and the breakfast room. Breakfasts not recommended. Had it been warmer, I would have paid the extra and eaten out. My top-floor room had a small balcony overlooking a square, Galeries Lafayette, and the Bastille with its surrounding mountains. Quite a view. The hotel had clearly been recently refurbished, and everything was new, but bland and joyless, with little attention paid to aesthetics. The desk was helpful, though I didn't try English. A useful place, but not one I would choose for pleasure.

“Pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

This hotel was definitely worth its stay. The staff was very nice and spoke a good amount of English. There was a small lift great for baggage, which was very helpful in getting everything up to the room. The rooms were pleasant, basic but clean and orderly. Like any European hotel, the rooms were on the smaller end, but it was definitely comfortable enough. The bathrooms were clean and functioning, and there was a fair amount of closet space.
The location was great, close to many shops and restaurants. It was a great area for walking around, especially at night, and exploring many of the different streets and courtyards of Grenoble, which I would definitely suggest to do while in Grenoble.
I would suggest getting a room facing the street, preferably with a balcony. It can be a bit noisier (though noise definitely wasn't a problem), but it's great for people watching while sitting out on the balcony. If it's good weather, keep the windows open and sit out on the balcony. It's fun to people watch and take in the sights of the city. We went to the breakfast one morning, it had a good assortment of food, nothing spectacular but it was all good. Overall, it was a great and modest hotel with a good staff and in a great area of Grenoble. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street with a balcony are definitely more interesting and enjoyable.

“Gateway to the Alps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Location overlooking town square & very central to amenities. Noisy at times. Rooms modern, clean & roomy. Staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast representing good value...cereal, yoghurt, fruit, pastries, cold meats, juices, coffee, tea. Hotel subsidizes parking at certain parkade which is nearby.

Room Tip: While rooms overlooking square have great views, they are somewhat noisy.

“Great location, modest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

We stayed here to "get away" and stroll around Grenoble. The location is great. There was air conditioning so we could close the windows (avoid noise!) and be comfortable. However everytime people opened or closed doors in the corridor, it was a large "clack". The staff was nice and helpful. The continental breakfast in the morning (9 euros/person) was fairly complete. The room is quite small, modest furnishings, but the bathroom is quite inconvenient. The shower was placed behind the door, so it was very difficult to be two in the bathroom at the same time.

“perfect getaway in the middle of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

We booked this hotel for two nights last week-end, and got exactly what we wanted/needed: a small, clean and fresh room with a great view and friendly staff.

Our room was at the third floor, and although (1) place grenette is quite busy at night on week ends (2) there was a rave party on la bastille which was very loud, as soon as we closed the windows, there was no problem of noise. The room had obviously been renovated recently and everything was fresh.
This is a historic building, however, so everything is not extremely modern, but i don't think that is the reason why people should come to this hotel.

The reason is in fact that this is a very charming place right in the middle of the city, with an excellent view of la bastille and the mountains behind, and friendly and efficient staff.

We did not try the breakfast, because here are many great terrasses around, but it looked appetizing enough.
