“Great location & views, BUT no iron & dated...”

Stayed in hotel for three nights. First room on 2nd floor was not great, so my husband advised me to speak to reception...OMG 5 staff (all ladies) & none of them at all helpful, in fact very arrogant. Said they were full & we had got a better room than we had paid for & pointed to a price list showing around 5 different types of room which made no sense. I left it & went back to the 2nd floor room. Then my husband decided to try & he got us a room on the 4th floor! Why him & not me....I was nice.
Great views on the 4th floor & 3 balconys, but a very dated room.
Also maybe I am the only person that needs an iron when I travel, but when we enquired they do not supply...no even an ironing room, they have someone come in to do your ironing...example of prices €3.60 for a top....Expensive for what it was & staff terrible the whole 3 days...if they even smiled would be nice. Would recommend for location, but there are other hotels close by.

“Great Stay”

The location of the hotel is fantastic! It is in the center of town near all, restaurants, cafes within walking distance. A bus stop is also in front of the hotel and there is a tram stop around the corner making access to sights and locations outside of town easy to get to. Within walking distance to the train station and it only took my daughter and I about 10 minutes to get to the Hotel Angleterre. It is right across the street from a lovely park and the hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating.

“Great location in the heart of city and on the tram line”

This is a typical French hotel, so if you are expecting a chain feeling you will be disappointed. This is the kind of hotel where you still leave your key at the front desk, the breakfast features local nuts and cheeses, and most of the names of famous guests are French – though I did see Omar Sharif on the list of celebrity guests. Rooms vary in size; however, they are very clean. There is free wireless and the front desk had DVDs for the players in the rooms. The hotel is a short tram ride from the train station and in the center of town directly across from Victor Hugo Park and within walking distance of the museums. For the budget conscious there is a Monoprix three blocks away and three grocery stores between the hotel and the train station. A drycleaner is next door to the hotel, as is an excellent pizza restaurant.

“Excellent value for money in a lovely city”

We had 2 rooms at this hotel one a standard double 409 and the other a balneo 412 which was more expensive and although there was a little more space in the balneo, the standard double was better as it had a balcony and views of the Alps whereas ours looked out over buildings. IT was nice being right in the middle of the city and Victor Hugo square was a great location. The staff at the hotel were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the cleaning was very good....and my family are quite picky regarding this. Air con was good, internet access free & fast and never too much trouble if you wanted something printed in reception.
Only downside and we just found it funny is there is a church next door that begins ringing its bells at 6am every day. We found this helped us get the most out of each day and was a nicer wake up facility than alarm clocks

“Great Location - Shame About The Unwelcoming Front Desk Staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

We don't expect all that much from a hotel as not much time is spent in it. But there are certain things wished for, like good location, clean rooms, helpful staff, etc. Firstly, Hotel Angleterre is in an excellent spot. You can easily walk from Grenoble train or bus stations straight to the hotel (around 10 mins, even with luggage), no problems. Unfortunately you then find the only access into the hotel is by going up a small set of stairs! Struggling with luggage, this is not helpful. This was topped off by the most miserable woman on the front desk. Usually I find front desks are staffed by friendly, welcoming and chatty staff. Not so here. We weren't even given basic information such as breakfast times, etc. The room contained no paperwork to give us general hotel information either. More positive points: the room was okay & well soundproofed, the view was good, TV, DVD, and tea/coffee making facilities all included. Breakfast was included in our package, and this was a good full buffet selection. A guy worked hard on clearing the tables quickly and keeping the food replenished. But day after day, we found the various staff on the Front Desk (especially the first lady we had come across) unwelcoming. There was no small talk or helpful information. It didn't really matter if they spoke English or not, as there was no real communication going on! It would have been nice to have been able to get some tips on places to visit, etc, but we had better, friendlier, and more helpful communication with bus drivers and shop keepers. Oh - and the room cleaner was lovely too (perhaps she should have been put on the Front Desk!). Grenoble itself hasn't got a lot to keep you occupied for long - but has an excellent transport system (if a touch vague at times) - and you can take day trips out to many places for reasonable prices (by bus especially). So, overall view of Hotel Angeleterre: stay here for great access to everything, but don't expect anything much from the staff.
