“much cheaper than geneva”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed for 4 days in December as my family were keen to visit CERN. I am so pleased with our choice. We found the area around Evian delightful and enjoyed walking the streets and along the foreshore of Lac Leman. For a family of 6 I booked a 3 BR suite (sleeps 8) as the kids always whinge if they have to sleep on a sofa bed. The apartment was spacious and well appointed, but the beds were a little hard. We made good use of the kitchen and could walk to Lido (less than 5 minutes) to buy great and cheap food to cook! We had 2 bathrooms and enjoyed long hot showers. We had a great view of the lake from the apartment. I thought it was great value.

“Comme ci, comme ca...”

We chose this hotel as a base to explore Lac Le man during our swiss vacation. It is located outside the centre of Evian, but this was no problem to us, as we travelled by car. We made the reservation via booking.com, for an appartment for 6 persons (forgot to mention we were 6). We arrived a bit late, at about 8 o'clock in the afternoon, and the receptionist left after handling us the key. Unfortunately, when we entered the appartment we discovered that it was made up for 4 persons and not 6. There were towels for 4, and there were no bedsheets for the sofa that was supposed to be used by the two of us. As there was nobody at the reception (no problem with this) we started making phone calls at the emergency phone number, and leaving several messages, as they only answered after 4-5 calls (they didn't call us back). We must admit that the lady that answered was polite and told us to go out to eat and not be worried, as a colleague of hers would bring bedsheets and towels during the next hour. When we came back from our dinner at Evian, the sheets and the towels were left there, but the bed was not made up. It was no big business for us to make it up, but we strongly believe that it could have been the smallest apologie for the inconvenience caused. Not to mention the fact that for 2 days and 6 persons there was only one toilet paper roll left at the appartment...Anyway, the general impression is not that bad, the appartment was clean and the price very good (176 euros for 2 nights). But we wouldn't probably choose it again.

“Great considering the price”

We stayed here last week and chose it based on price and location. Our room was in the basement in building C with a view of the lake. Overall, the stay was ok. The room was so cheap but was really noisy from the room above us. The bed was tiny and uncomfortable. There was an excellent kitchen though which was fully equiped, a large bathroom with a good shower and the pool was great.

The hotel was remote though. You had to drive to get anywhere and the selection of Restaurants in Evian itself was poor. There wasn't actually much to see and do in the town so we ended up travelling to nearby villages.

Considering the money we paid this hotel was great, the lady at reception was excellent and wealth of information. I'd recommend it, but ask for a room higher than the basement!

Room Tip: Rooms higher up will be less noisy

“water water everywhere - but not much else nearby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

Travelled for business supporting a customer in Vevey, but all nearby hotels sold out for the Montreaux jazz festival. Had my teenage daughter with me on work experience so the Terrasses du lac was duly chosen for its pool and less "business" ambiance.

Maps may list Evian Les Bains as close to Montreaux "as the crow flies" but it is no less than an hours drive around twisting country lanes, so beware if that is important to you.

The accommodations sit amid a residential area on the shoulder of Evian Les Bains, which almost bisects a golf course. It seems to be a very quiet location indeed. All rooms seem to have balconies with a view of the pool, the lake or the mountains. Very nice.

Our room in building 1, 2nd floor had one bedroom with a spacious and comfortable sofa bed in the kitchen/ lounge room. Kitchen is small but could be used to prepare snacks, and there is a fridge.

Noah's TV with only one English language channel would wear this after a while with a family I think.

Bathroom is fine and spacious, however no consumables are provided by the hotel. Take toilet tissue, shower gel etc all with you.

It was hot during our stay, and the AC had been disabled, but it was quiet enough with open windows and the curtain draw across. beds very comfortable indeed.

There is an underground garage for parking.

The accommodation really is charming for a family holiday. The only problem is that Evian Les Bains itself is ruled over by the Evian water facilities. There is little there in terms of restaurants or bars. More importantly there is nothing in walking distance. If you don't mind driving to Thonon for shopping, dining and pretty much everything else for example, this won't be a problem.

Nice for a couple of days but too isolated for a family holiday in my opinion.

“Okay for a short visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2009

We stayed at the Residence Les Terrasses for five nights and for the price, especially compared to everywhere else we had looked at, it was excellent value. We had a one bedroom apartment which was fine for two of us but would have been very cramped for 4 as is intended. The apartment was fairly basic, but clean and quite adequate for our requirements, with a large balcony with a side view of Evian and the lake. It is not easy to find the first time, but the directions given on Google.maps is very good as long as you follow it carefully. As we were travelling around the area a lot the walk back up the hill didn't really affect us and when we did go down into Evian we took the car, plenty of car parks at less than 1 euro an hour. We were however, given a tip for getting back up the hill - use the free funicular (only open till about 7 though) and then you have a fairly flat walk back to the apartments - never actually tried it but it looked a good option. The building work, a couple of new apartment blocks, is almost finished so didn't affect us at all. When we were there the apartments weren't very busy and people were well spread out but because it is quite a big complex I wouldn't like to be there when it is full as I'm sure it would be quite noisey. Overall, for the price we paid and for a short stay, it okay.
