“Thank You”

Just returned from yet another wonderful holiday at Chalet Juba. Despite the snow not being of the best Nick's encylopaedic knowledge of the 3 valleys meant finding the best snow whether he was advising us or taking us out on his fantastic guided tours.
However it was the hospitality that made the hoilday for us. From Joey's excellent baking, particularly the flapjack, to the carefully chosen wines which complimented the delicious meals it was a delight to ski home to.
The company and chat around the table combined with Nick and Joey's understated professionalism creates a chalet holiday that cannot be beaten. It is without doubt not only the best chalet holiday we have been on but the best skiing holiday and i have been skiing for nearly 40yrs!
Looking forward to next year.

“We have booked again”

Chalet Juba was my first Chalet holiday, it was so good we have booked again this year. Fantastic food, wine and great company. Nick and Joey are fantastic hosts, this along with their expertise of where was the best place to ski made this the best trip so far. Yehhhhh they have some rules but what's wrong with that just means that you have a well run Chalet that is looked after very well just like it's guests. Comes highly recommended by me:)

“Customer care?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

For me a skiing holiday in a chalet has 4 essential ingredients:

Facilities for skiers/snowboarders
Standard of accommodation
Food
Hosts

The chalet has great storage facilities for skis & boards. A boot dryer is a great bonus. At a push, and dependent on ability the chalet is ski in/ski out (providing you don't mind breaking any rules!).

On the range of basic to homely to luxury, the rooms are basic with the living accommodation homely. Everything Is very clean and tidy.

The food was excellent with plenty of it. The website describes the menu as gourmet but I'd place it in the great home cooked category, nothing wrong with that though! The wine is exactly as described though and superb.

Last but by no means least, the hosts. This is the key to any chalet holiday and affects all the other elements. In this case the hosts own the chalet and this shows in a well run chalet with great food. Unfotunatelty there is a downside. The hosts, on occasions, came across as precious and officious. There were some sensible rules presented in an old fashioned school teacher manner. I didn't feel relaxed or 'at home'. My wife asked for a mirror and was deeply upset by the response, basically why would you want one and no. She had to stand in the bath to do her hair.

To sum up a great chalet let down by a poor understanding of customer care. The little things do matter.

I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy your short break (4 nights) post New Year week, the other guests said what a lovely time they‘d had. We are also very sorry that we didn’t have a portable mirror to lend to your wife as the bathroom mirror was too high. I have noted this in the past and placed a mirror at a more suitable height in the wardrobe.
Regarding the food I’m glad you enjoyed the food from a “great home cooked” perspective and as you will see on the website this is exactly what we promise. With reference to “gourmet food” we have never used this word, nor inferred it on our website nor in any other advertising. The front page of the website mentions “delicious home cooked meals” and “plenty of great food and wine”. The Cuisine page of the website says “For dinner we cook a hearty and nutritious 3 course meal accompanied by different carefully selected superior wines each night” and we give examples of the menus so I am sorry that it was not as you expected.
Skiing back to the door of the chalet does require a careful 50 meters down a POMA track that sometimes runs so care is required and you are right that it wouldn’t be suitable for all. It is possible to walk the 50 meters from the green run or simply jump off the POMA lift at the back door.
Re Customer Care, I did go out of my way to dig out your car out of the snow twice; firstly when you drove off the side of the road where the snow plough dumps snow into the river and secondly at the entrance to the chalet area when it took myself and another guest about half an hour to get you unstuck.
I’m sorry that we came across as you describe, as a simple northern bloke I have never been called “precious” nor “officious” in my 57 years!
On the front page of the website I say “Our aim is to make your holiday a special and memorable occasion and many of our guests return each year and we would like to welcome lots of new people too” so I was rather shocked by your review and that your experience of us was so poor. I’m just sorry that you didn’t approach me directly.

“Fantastic hosts, fantastic food, fantastic skiing”

This is my fourth time back to stay at Chalet Juba. Nick and Joey are great hosts, very knowlegeable about the expansive ski areas that is The Three Valleys. Nick and Joey regularly go skiing most days and often take parties out skiing to share runs you wouldnt ordinarily take, Nick has the most up to date info on the pistes which have been bashed most recently, so you'll be guaranteed a great days skiing! My husband skiied the four valleys on New Year's day by 2.00pm!

In terms of the 3V ski network, La Tania links you to Courcheval and Meribel most easily. The network of piste runs that are available to you is immense, it would be hard to ski all of it in a week! Courcheval is ideal if like me you are a novice skiier, there are quite a few nice green, blue and red runs. Even some of the black's arn't that hard to ski down. Eating out at lunch time - be wary of some of the more expensive cafe's, look around or ask Nick and Joey which are the best ones.

The food at Chalet Juba is fabulous with a choice of porridge, boiled eggs, croissants and cereals for breakfast, tea and coffee and home made cake after a long day on the slopes, and a 3 course home made meal for supper - complete with a choice of red or white wine - there is no way you'll complain that there wasn't enough food at Chalet Juba. Nick & Joey's Tartifflette and chocolate bailies mousse - especially good!

The chalet is at the top of La Tania, over looking the town and there is a convenient ski path just above the chalet where you can ski down in the morning. This path situated at the end of a green run 'La Plan Fontaine' which very handily takes you past the chalet after your day on the slopes, or if you fancy a quick Vin Chaude in La Tania before you head back to the chalet, a button lift will take you directly past the chalet too!

The ski chalet is a modern fairly recently built chalet all rooms have en-suite baths or showers, heated towel rails and sufficient room to hang clothes. Some of the rooms have a balcony with superb views over looking the valley . The chalet also has a large lounge area heated by a log fire where you can sit and read your book at the end of a long day on the slopes, or chat with the other guests. There is also a boot room for storing skis and heating your boots for the next day.

All in all if you stay at Chalet Juba I can't under estimate how you will be guaranteed a fabulous and excellent ski trip.
