We booked in last minute and were shown to our 70's alpine style room. The decor was quaint but I agree with other reviewers that it needs updating, especially the bathroom. Small things in the room made it feel like we were there to inconvenience the staff; do not mess with the temperature for the heating, hairdryers available (apparently v briefly) from reception, pillows available on request - do not use decorative pillows !! We chose to eat at the local bar and not at hotel because atmosphere seemed cloyingly stuffy. Also, went next door for croissants and did not have breakfast during our one night stay. We were told that check-out was noon, but let's not forget the insistent and smirking cleaning lady who tried to enter our room far too soon for our liking.
It was upon leaving though that I got very angry (but did not show it). They had apparently given us a superior room and had not conveyed this information to us (the room certainly did not suggest “superior”!). Therefore the cost of the room was more than I expected. I told the lady (slightly younger manager) who went to ask the other (older lady) who checked us in. I admit that our French is not fluent but I know my numbers and she certainly told us €89 and not €99! It is not a large difference admittedly. However, if they had acquiesced and got the route of "the customer is always right" then I probably would not have remembered to write this review or to detail all the other small, things that add up to this hotel being very disappointing when it could, with different owners, have been a very nice experience.
Upon reading other reviews detailing overcharging, any lingering doubts that *both* of us misheard the price of the room have gone. I have not told my husband about this and hope he will not check this review! He would be more upset than I.
