“NÃO CUMPREM RESERVAS....”

- Accommodation at the Mercure Chamonix Centre: from January, 2 to January 4, 2012.
Upon arriving at the hotel on the afternoon of January, 2, I was informed that the hotel was full and there were no rooms available, despite the reservation has been made and authorized payment by credit card on May 21, 2011, ie over six months in advance. We were transferred (transport at our expense) to consider hotel downgraded after lost time, stress and discomfort for our family;

“Very good potential in a great location but poorly run.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Location is great. Right by train station Nd bus hitch is key since chamonix is the opposite of ki-in, ski- out. Stayed for new years wkd. Room was in main bldg an facing mont blanc with a balcony. Tough to beat that! Room was newly redone and great - plush carpet and wood panelling had a nice cozy feel which was good nice lobby was more Hampton inn than ski chalet.
Service was dreadful. Always indeed where mgr was! Staff was generally unprepared to answer basic questions re directions, etc. always felt like I was bothering the front desk. Wifi was often down and painful to use. Bathroom did not have same high quality as main room. housekeeping failed to always provide big bath towels. No drain plug to take a bath which you need after a long day of skiing. No pool or hot tub other disappointing for a ski hotel. Hotel breakfast was very good, but waitstaff was indifferent and service poor. At €17 per day for breakfast, did not feel like good value.

“Worst travel experience ever! Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This hotel contributed to the worst travel experience I have ever had in 20+ years of traveling:
1) Horrible service: the front desk was absolutely dreadful, unhelpful and down right rude. Everytime I spoke with them it felt as if I was distracting them from more important things, e.g., surfing the web. They responded with short and annoyed responses even to simple requests such as directions and recommendations. Worst of all, when my car got stuck in snow and I asked for help to call a local garage, they refused and said "this is not our problem, we are busy checking people in." When I asked them to help me call Avis, my rental car company, they acted annoyed and said they were busy and to come back later in maybe an hour. And then when I asked if they could please help push the car out of the parking lot, they also refused and said there was absolutely no one in the hotel who could help us. I had to find other people to help, which delayed me 6 hours and I missed my flight.
2) Rooms are small, old, not well-maintained: Rooms cost 300 Euros and were about 200 sq ft with a double/full size bed that barely fits 2 adults. The walls inside the closet were cracked and the plaster had come off in several places. Bathrooms are not well-maintained and to be frank dirty. Overall feeling was that it was a run-down motel.

If you want a severely over-priced run-down motel with dreadful service that is milking a good location, this is the place to stay. If you want a quality stay with positive and memorable experience - ABSOLUTELY STAY AWAY.

I would never stay at this hotel ever again and it has scarred me from future stays at the Mercure chain.

“A decent 3* hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This hotel has a very convenient location - initially we were allocated a room in the annexe which was very dated - small room - small bed - only room for 1 bedside table - cupboards really in poor state internally - the large bathroom was very grim - very institutional. The telephone was in need of a decent clean. Only good thing was a large balcony. It was not worth the rate we were paying which was probably the most expensive period to stay. Really needs a total refurb.
Luckily got moved into the main part of the hotel & the room was wonderful - modern, clean & a pleasure to stay in - very nice lighting. Breakfast at E17 was not included but was very good, plenty of choice - it was quite manic as the hotel was very full & they could definately improve the hot food station with an additional chef to help with the preparation of eggs - there were quite lengthy queues at times. Not sure why they did not implement this as I couldn't imagine the hotel could get any busier. Bar prices seemed quite steep. Family friendly hotel. Staff were pleasant & helpful not intrusive.
The ratings I give are for the main hotel complex.

“Unable to live up to the Accor brandname”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

1. Excellent location, right next to the bus & train station;
2. Hotel building & amenities not 100% ready for occupation by fare-paying guests: discarded carton boxes on the corridor; TV channels not properly tuned; and in-room telephone not working throughout my two-night stay from check-in to check-out despite reporting the problem on three separate occasions on the first day to a technician who fixed up the floor-light in my presence, a front desk staff, and a duty supervisor; even worst - no oral response to me regarding the situation.
3. No electric kettle in the room. Was told that kettles are provided to the suite.
4. Not all staff members were aware of the readiness of the amenities as I was given a ticket to store my luggage in a no-man open-door room on -1/F with furniture scattered around.
