We just returned from a long weekend in Annecy where we stayed at Le Royal. I don't know where to begin to extol the virtues, at least for our needs. It was convenient - to the train station and to sights - being in old town, but not in the heart, so accessible by car. We arrived and were greeted by friendly, helpful and English speaking staff (which isn't necessary, but it helps). The room was like a lovely apartment. We had an ample living room with sofa, chairs, coffee table, bookshelf, as well as a dining table w/4 chairs and an amply outfitted kitchen "unit" with 2 burners, microwave, sink, refrigerator, coffee pot, dishes and cooking utensils. In addition there was a separate bedroom and bathroom. Our rooms each had a small (standing room only) balcony facing the entrance courtyard. Despite being in a very central location, it was relatively quiet. We chose to sleep with the windows/french doors open, but with them closed it was very quite. Because there is air conditioning, you can sleep with the windows closed! There is an optional breakfast (extra cost) in a lovely breakfast room or on the terrace. We chose not to do that, since we had purchased fruit, juice, yogurt and coffee at the nearby Monoprix and made our own breakfast each morning with the addition of croissants from one of several nearby boulangeries. I have no hesitation in recommending Le Royal!
BTW - There are little packets of instant coffee, but if you want the real thing, you need to buy coffee - but not filters; at least the drip pot in our room came with a reusable "gold" filter. You are expected to wash your own dishes, but are only supplied with a dish towel - so you will need to figure something out (I bought a little sponge at the Monoprix and used shampoo for dish soap).
