“Quaint hotel, a couple issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Overall enjoyed the hotel, it's very quaint...nice courtyard, loved the balcony, very friendly front desk staff. The room was average in terms of decor, but clean and comfortable. Just a few minutes up the road from the town center.

Two issues: First, like an earlier poster mentioned, there was a ridiculous "tap, tap" sound each morning. Definitely loud enough to wake and keep us up! We couldn't figure out what was causing it, but it was very annoying. Also, the maids in the early morning were audible through the doors. We are young (30s), and live in NYC, so typically noise doesn't bother us much. But this noise did. Not everyone has mentioned this so it's possible it was just our room location. Second, of course the wifi did not work in the room. To be fair, it didn't work in most of our rooms in France. We had to sit in the sitting area by the breakfast room to get a signal.

“Lovely hotel, sadly a fire trap...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We stayed here for four nights in September 2010 and had a lovely room on the second floor with a view of the mountains. Breakfast is great, the staff very helpful, yet we encountered a few problems. The hot water for the bath is inadequate for two full baths in a night. Not a big deal compared to what happened the day we left. The day before we checked out, we informed the front desk staff that we'd be leaving very early in the morning to catch a train in Avignon. They let us know there would not be any staff available at our 5:30 a.m. departure. We were fine with that. Little did we know, the front door out of the hotel had a very large unfamiliar locking mechanism that we could not, try as we might, unlock. My husband is an engineer and he could not figure out how to release the lock so we could exit. We spent over ten minutes trying to "escape" from the hotel. I tried the shuttered windows in the banquet hall but there were no light switches that we could find to help us out that way. We finally found an unlocked french door in the breakfast room that led out to the garden and that's how we made our escape from the hotel. We are seasoned travelers, but have never been locked "inside" a hotel before... it was a first for us. We laugh now, but in case of a fire, it could have been a tragedy. This is also a Rick Steves recommended hotel so I hope someone from his staff reads this and the hotel can remedy this situation. I recommend the hotel with these reservations.

“Clean, affordable, acceptable base in St Remy - nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

There's very little to quibble about at this hotel. 10 minutes walking distance from the centre, with own parking, a supermarket close by, yet in a peaceful place where no sounds intruded to disturb our sleep. Staff were helpful as we uniformly found in the region, supporting information requests promptly. The breakfast buffet was limited in its choice, perhaps understandable given that it was included in the room price unlike at many other similar hotels we looked up. The room was clean and spacious enough for our family of 4 and the two twin beds were large enough; we did not really need the extra bed that we had requested at the time of booking. The few irritants were not major - toilet in a separate cubbyhole with barely room to stand in; absence of hooks to hang clothes in the shower room/toilet. The overall 3 rating is based on the hotel being acceptable and nothing more. If we were to visit St Remy again we would perhaps look for a place with more character and charm.

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

We stayed here during a hot spell of 37C weather with no A/C, yet the large window provided a nice breeze and we had a great sleep. The location is great, just a 5 minute walk from the town with free secure private parking. The room was a little worn out with towels that were either severely frayed or had wholes in them but overall the quality of the room was nice. The bathroom was clean as were the beds and carpet. The free wifi was a little finicky but that happens no matter where you are. We didn't have breakfast there but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would stay here again as it was lovely.

“Wonderful location for a good night's sleep”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

My wife and I spent one evening here while driving through Provence. We had booked a higher-cost, air-conditioned room which had a small patio overlooking the mountains. It was simply beautiful. The entire property is a bit dated but our room was spotlessly clean and very, very comfortable. The A/C worked very well and while the location is fairly quiet to begin with, it added to a great night's rest. We were able to park our car in their off-street private lot and walk the couple of blocks into the heart of Saint Remy quite easily.

There is no elevator in the hotel which might be an issue for some. For our purposes we simply pulled what we wanted out of our suitcases into an overnight bag and that was very sufficient.

We were very happy with this accommodation and would easily recommend it.
