I have been to Marseille many times and stayed at the Citea Prado twice. I have since been staying at the Vieux-Port for the location and closer to my friends. I have to say that my stay at the Citea was really nice, I was by myself and they took good care of me. I especially appreciated the kitchen and coffee maker. This part of town is much quiert than the Vieux-Port. So if you are looking for a good night sleep, this is the place.

Hotel staff were friendly. The Prado is located near the metro and the "Parc Chanot".
The price is not expensive for quality.

I stayed in the Citea for 10 nights while visiting Marseille to do some work with collaborators. I picked this place because it was cheap, next to the metro and had the benefit of a little kitchen. As I was staying for so long I did not want the expense of going out every night to eat. I had a basic studio apartment which had two small beds. The kitchen consisted of a fridge, a couple of hot plates, filter coffee maker and a combi microwave. As the apartment was for 2 people there was all the plates and cutlery etc needed for 2. However, no cleaning products are provided so you will need to bring/buy your own. The (very) small TV had not too bad a selection of channels with lots of french channels and BBC world news. The letdown was the bathroom as there was nowhere to hang the shower head so you could stand underneath and the tap was not really attached to the bath. As I was staying for over a week there was a limited maid service but this does not bother me as it means I can leave my stuff where I want and it does not get moved. The place is very quiet and as it is setback from the very busy Ave du Prado road noise is luckily not a problem. As it is setback it is not all that obvious from the street there is just a little sign on the front of the building. From the metro you want to take the exit that is straight ahead from the barriers (don't remember the name but not the ave du Prado exit the other one) and once up on street level turn 180 degrees, the Citea is on the left after the little cut through road (about 70m). The walk along the road towards Castellane metro stop and even central Marseille (under 30 min) is nice (there is a market on Saturday mornings between Perier and Castellane metro stations). This section of road also contains a number of shops, cafes and cinemas.

This hotel is away from the port area, but it was right on a metro stop, which made it really easy to get to and get around town. There were signs up around the hotel about security and staff suggested you lock up everything and ensure you closed your window - no matter what floor you were on - because they had experienced an increase in thefts "recently." There were a few bars/restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was clean, the staff were friendly and free Internet was appreciated (although the connecting to the Internet was slow in the afternoons).
