“Average stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We had 2 nights here during May 2011-conveniently situated for transport & evening meals although we did not have breakfast included. The room was provided with crockery, cutlery & a microwave - but nothing to wash or dry dishes.
The beds were rock hard & I had to use the bedcovering underneath the sheet to enable a night's sleep.
Staff were pleasant but not overly helpful.

“THE WORST HOTEL IN THE WORLD.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

We were staying here for a month on a study trip to Euromed.

Whatever you do, do not stay in this hotel. Not only is it disgusting, but the management is incompetent & cannot deal with anything.

Upon arrival, after paying nearly £1400 between us, my flatmate & I were given a disabled room, after they had overmarketed the 'appartments' to us. We complained again & again & finally moved room. This was fine, but the AC in that room didn't work. The toilet flooded, there was disgusting produce all over the floor & they said we would have to wait till the next morning to fix it. At the crack of dawn (5 in the morning), we were woken up by staff from the hotel who had just decided to come in to our room whilst we were asleep without ringing. That day, my friend wanted a new towel to shower at the beach, as she had put her one down on the gross floor & she was told she would have to wait until we moved to a new room,

We moved upstairs & to top everything off we have been the victims of theft. It is very easy to ask at reception for someone elses room key, and we suspect the key has been given out to one of the other students (there are at least 60 here) who has come in to our room. Our friend upstairs came in after her flatmates went to sleep & was handed the MASTER key (the one that will open any room). Luckily she is honest, & gave it back. As well as this, my personal towels were taken & put in alongside random people's dirty towels, when I asked for laundry money to wash my previously clean towels they said no. A Tiffany & Co necklace of mine has been taken from my room, & the hotel say they are not responsible because it was not in the safe, as far as I'm concerned, if they hand out the master key so easily they ARE responsible.

The Safe codes are the same in all the rooms, the internet was down the night before our final exam, the place is stuffy, the staff rude. Anyone can walk in to this hotel & the reception is often unattended.

DO NOT STAY HERE & DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY.

This hotel does not deserve a 2 star rating.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here at all. It's cheap, and there are reasons as to why.

“You get what you pay for...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

We spent 2 nights here at the Citea in Marseille. Overall it was an ok hotel. Cheap...

Service - Firstly the staff there weren't the most helpful bunch. Yes I did do some surfing to see where to go around Provence area (as someone had previously written) and also a good recommendation for bouillabaisse but thought I would ask the people in reception if they had any thoughts. To which their response was the Provence area is very nice and every town is good to see and the response for bouillabaisse was there are plenty of restaurants around the port area and all are good. Nor were they helpful when the hotel car park was full in trying to find us an alternative.

There was a pool and we had a bit of a swim which was lovely and warm. Had free wifi

Location - The location for Marseille was good but as many have mentioned before, its not the greatest city.

Rooms - The rooms had a kitchenette stocked with enough cutlery and crockery to make do. Microwave/convection oven, stoves etc. But yes no cleaning products.

Our main concern about the rooms was the bed throw had blood stains on it (which I am sure that every hotel you go to does not wash it after each guest) Pretty disgusting but probably localised to our room. The sheets itself were clean and once you got rid of the throw everything else was ok.

Lastly, someone else mentioned parking. Parking around the area is free between 6pm and 9am. If you get there beforehand you either need to pay for parking and leave before 9am or organise parking beforehand. We didn't and were caught out by a full car park.

Overall, it was a cheap hotel, can't complain too much...

“Good location, but lots of Americans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

The hotel is very clean, the staff are friendly and the price was good. The accommodation is fairly basic, the little kitchen is good for breakfast, but you wouldn't be making your dinner!
The location is pretty good, a short walk to the metro or about 20 mins to vieux port.

The only down side was the huge amount of young Americans staying at the same time, so there was some noise from them, but not too bad.
