“Overlooking the Vieux Port, Ideal Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Make sure that you get a room facing the street which overlooks the Vieux Port. You have a window on what makes Marseille unique, well worth the additional cost over an interior facing room. The staff is quite helpful and welcoming. The breakfast is well worth the 8 Euros, fully stocked and delicious.

The rooms and the property itself could do with a spruce up. The bathtub in our room was a bit slippery. That being said, if you want to be in the center of Old Marseille, on the Vieux Port, a few steps from the fish sellers, excursion boats and buses, and restaurants of all categories, you must stay at the Alize.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Vieux Port. It's worth the additional expense.

“Superb location and functional air conditioning. Need we say more?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

In all our travels through France, this was the FIRST hotel we've stayed in that had air-conditioning. Marseille is an incredible city for aimless wandering but can be unbearably hot in the summer (especially if, like us, you plan to spend the majority of your stay on the water or at the beach), making this a fantastic perk to staying at Hotel Alizé.

Secondly, Hotel Alizé's location on Quai des Belges is ideal. You can board a boat-tour steps from the hotel door. You can hop on a bus that will take you down to the beach from just across the street. The hotel is situated directly between Vieux Marseille and the shopping district. It's a 1km walk from St. Charles train station. Suffice it to say, its location served us perfectly!

Our only negative critique is that the Wifi in the hotel did not work during the entirety of our stay. We were told it was working at the front desk, and so there must be something wrong with our laptops (hmm...). Not likely, as we ended up sitting on our laptops at Starbucks to use Wifi. It wasn't a big deal for us, as we didn't spend much time in our hotel room anyways -- however, we can imagine this would be disastrous for a business traveler. **Ergo, Hotel Alizé may not be the right place to stay if you're on business!

Room Tip: Their rooms overlooking the Vieux Port are much more open and well-worth the extra cost.

“Great Location, Good Budget Hotel, Poor Room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Positives: Excellent location, clean bathroom, friendly staff and free Wi-Fi

Negatives: Room was small with no view and looked directly on to other rooms; the room looked very tired and in need of refurbishment; no tea / coffee making facilities; no english speaking TV Channels i.e.) BBC, CNN; air Conditioning was very poor and the room was constantly warm / hot, breakfast was costly at 8 euro's for very, very little - probably best to breakfast at the many eateries located around the harbour.

Would I go back again? yes but only for the excellent location directly opposite the harbour and only if I was staying in Marseille for a couple of nights only.

“Best View”

Hotel Alize is a bead and break-fast hotel.I stayed here for 5 days during my recent cultural exchange visit. The hotel has excellent view of Old Port and has minimum 50 world food restaurants including the best Indian restaurant Jaipur just 50 meters away.Bus stops, markets, tourist attractions, ferry boats point and everything else is just around the corner. The staff is very helpful and can communicate in English.Bathtub,heater/ac and window overlooking the old port and hustle bustle of the city makes it a best place for everyone.
