“Wish we could have stayed longer!”

Thanks to a phone call from the tasting room at Caves de Papes in Chateauneuf, we were lucky to obtain a room for one night. The hospitality of owner/proprietor Philippe set the bar for our two-week trip. The small B&B is tucked away outside Orange, but well-marked with signs along the road. The interior justifies the acclaim the establishment has received in France's version of Architectural Digest. Philippe purchases the antique furnishings himself and he and wife Isabelle spent years rebuilding an old family farmhouse with spectacular results. Our room, with four-poster bed, shower, separate tub and double sinks, looked straight out of Better Homes and Gardens. The place also has an outdoor pool and indoor jacuzzi, a kitchen for guest use and huge living room (with fireplace) and dining room. Philippe went above and beyond -- even called to get us reservations in the Loire Valley. Can't wait to go back to this gem in Provence!

“Wonderful place to stay”

We stayed 6 days and enjoyed every one. A private relaxing atmosphere, great accommodations, wonderful hosts, very accommodating. They have a wonderful guest kitchen that allowed us to take full advantage of the local markets with their seasonal specialties. This is one of the top B&B's in France. They are located very near Orange, yet are surrounded by farm land. The unique home is deservedly featured in many publications.

Spring time in Provence is a great time to visit.

“A wonderful, wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2007

We (2 adults) stayed at Justin de Provence for nearly a week earlier this month (April 2007) and we had a fantastic time. In real life the property, its decor, and surroundings are even more beautiful than they appear on the website. The wonderful details -- such as the fragrant luxury soaps, fresh flowers -- made us feel pampered. Our access to a guest kitchen and the bistrot at all hours meant that we could have tea, coffee, or even a midnight snack should the mood strike. There are only 5 rooms and so the amenities (such as the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, stand-alone private bar-bistrot, lounge, and gardens with olive grove) are never crowded even if the house is full. It's perfectly situated for daytrips to all of Provence and even to the Cote d'Azur. Justin de Provence is an idyllic (but not remote) getaway, either for two, or for a gang of friends and family.

  • Liked — The decor and the setting
  • Disliked — The breakfast, while good, lacked variety and became monotonous after a few days.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2006

Justin de Provence is truly beautiful. Isabelle's exquisite taste is evident throughout. Our room (MarieJeanne & Justin) was large and very comfortable. We were delighted with the lovely stand-alone bath, and with the spacious shower-room. We had breakfast outside each morning in the warm early-October sun, feasting on local bread and Isabelle's delicious homemade confitures. The grounds are peaceful, full of hideaways to relax in. Guests are spoilt for choice with the outdoor pool & hot-tub, the heated indoor pool, the sauna and massage room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen solely for guests' use.
The weather was perfect for us (coming from wet and windy Ireland!!), as we enjoyed the late Autumn sunshine. However, it's easy to picture this place in Winter, with a welcoming fire in the huge open fireplace and the large comfortable sofas.
Philippe's advice regarding the best local vineyards and caves was invaluable.
But without doubt, the most endearing of all is the warm welcome which is extended upon entering this lovely house. We were sorry to leave, and I wished I had booked our entire Provencal stay at Justin de Provence.

“A Great Provence Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2006

We stayed 3 nights with Isabelle and Phillipe during the second half of this month (October) in their largest room. The room had an excellent combination of deep clawfoot tub, separate walk-in shower (with high volume shower head), double sink, beautiful French furniture, comfortable bed, and a balcony overlooking the back yard. All we can say is -- the family and the B&B is fabulous -- and can only repeat all the other positive comments made on the other reviews. By the way, the inn was featured in a multi-page photo spread in an upscale French decorating magazine this month -- so that should give you an idea about how nice the decorating is. But it is just so **comfortable** too! Breakfasts were tasty -- composed of fruit, fresh squeezed juice, jams, and a variety of 5 local breads (and of course teas or coffee). We would recommend this room and inn to any of our friends in a heartbeat. Enjoy!

  • Liked — Authentic and genuine
  • Disliked — Slightly tricky to find
  • Tips/Secrets — Olive / Wine coop in Nyon is a great stop for killer Chardonnay under $10. Also, Phillipe is a great resource for local food and wine.
