“EXCELLENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

A perfect stay !! Since our arrival the staff was very kind, the suitcases were in our room before we came in. High quality instalations, where you can enjoy an indoor swiming pool or to take sunbaths with a fabulous surrounding. The room was nice with lots of natural light and very nice bath amenities wich I personally like the brand "damana".

The location cant be better, and the garden in in perfect conditions. Brekfast was very good, specially the selections of cheese and the orange juice, really smooth and tasty.
We really enjoy dinner in a one star michellin star. Waiters, maitre and sumiller very profesional and food state of the art.
The prices were high, according to all this area of France.

“Stunning views, but falls short in other ways”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Great location and stunning vista across the Luberon. The swimming pool and surroundings are fabulous - we had lunch there one day and this was excellent rustic fare.

However, Les Bories is not perfect and in our view falls short of its lofty rating. Reception was just OK (they also got our bill wrong). The main restaurant was good, but over priced (go down to the village for better food / value). The Spa could not accommodate our requirements (they were full). Worst of all (for us at least), what started as an upmarket adult retreat turned into a family hotel over the weekend which was not what what we expected or wanted.

Room Tip: Its a long wide building and although we were not there, I would avoid going a long way from recepti...

“Beautiful Hotel, Stunnig view”

The location of Les Bories is excellent, lovely countryside with a stuning view over the Luberon and beautiful gardens, fantastic pool. Staff proudly announced the 5 stars promotion (?), but despite the kindness of the reception staff, unfortunately there are quite some elements that are missing for the ranking of a 5 stars hotel....
We truly enjoyed the weekend we spent in the hotel, the dinner was outstanding and so delicious, staff very kind and helpful, charming decoration.
But... ! bathroom was not clean (cockroaches, tide marks inside bath!!!), towels were obviously 10 years old, window door was broken, private terrace though lovely was not cleaned during our stay, at the swimming pool area no staff for serving you a drink other than in the restaurant. And... they have no Pimm's no.1, a must on a warm and sunny day...

“Haven in Provence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Les Bories must be one of the great gems of French hospitality. From the moment one enters is elegant lobby in the quiet countryside of olive trees and pines outside Gordes, you are greeted by a porter to take your bags and park your car. The charming receptionists give you the feeling that this place is designed to meet and exceed your expectations. The room we had was very comfortable, the amenities superb, the bathrooms elegant and stylish, and the view of the Luberon unforgettable. You can choose between the outside pool, or an indoor heated pool opposite the spa area. Soft bath towels are abundant. Room service is top notch -- we called for an electric plug adapter and a bucket of ice (for the wine we'd bought earlier that day), and both arrived within minutes. Same for the breakfast--arriving within minutes of the time specified on the overnight order card. Regrettably, we didn't have dinner there, so we cannot comment on the food. I've stayed in many luxury hotels around the world, and this one is right at the top. Don't hesitate to visit the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms with ground floor terraces are nice, but would recommend a first floor (premier etage) terrace...

“We immediately would like to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

The hotel belongs to one of the best hotels we stayed in. We had a special deal a room upgrade and breakfast included. The room was great with a nice view over the Gordes valley.
The breakfast was a real feast, not only standard things like bread, cereal, jam, cooked Ham. No they had also things like smoked salmon, fresh cut Serrano ham and dry sausage (saucisson sec) and loads of regional products, fresh juices all kinds of coffee’s and tee’s. Simply too many things to mention. Since we had only bed and breakfast we also took our lunch and dinner outside of the hotel. The following is based on the times we took our lunch/ dinner in the hotel.
Lunch is good not pretentious, mostly barbequed fish or meat (snapper, chicken, steak etc), each day offered one fish and one meat dish the prices were affordable. The quality was above the average restaurant were you would get these kind of dishes.
The dinner was a different story. The gourmand restaurant has a Michelin star but a French star is different from the rest of the world. Also in this restaurant, they had 3 menu’s we tried them all and only the most expensive menu could impress us if did forget the price. In the Netherlands you find many restaurants without a star that could do the same trick for less (even half) the money. We did eat 2 times a la carte same story. They used expensive products like white truffle, caviar, lobster etc. to impress. Also if order a four or more course meal one of the courses is cheese and I asked for something else, I got a green salad. Is this the creativity of a Michelin star chef?
The wine list is by the way good and the local wines are quite affordable? We used it to source good local wines, by ordering a different bottle with each meal enabling us to find a good Luberon wine to take home.
In summary: Would I go there again? Yes! staff, rooms, pools, wellness etc are great. Would take half board? No, there are affordable restaurants in Gordes and the surrounding areas.
