The hotel belongs to one of the best hotels we stayed in. We had a special deal a room upgrade and breakfast included. The room was great with a nice view over the Gordes valley.
The breakfast was a real feast, not only standard things like bread, cereal, jam, cooked Ham. No they had also things like smoked salmon, fresh cut Serrano ham and dry sausage (saucisson sec) and loads of regional products, fresh juices all kinds of coffee’s and tee’s. Simply too many things to mention. Since we had only bed and breakfast we also took our lunch and dinner outside of the hotel. The following is based on the times we took our lunch/ dinner in the hotel.
Lunch is good not pretentious, mostly barbequed fish or meat (snapper, chicken, steak etc), each day offered one fish and one meat dish the prices were affordable. The quality was above the average restaurant were you would get these kind of dishes.
The dinner was a different story. The gourmand restaurant has a Michelin star but a French star is different from the rest of the world. Also in this restaurant, they had 3 menu’s we tried them all and only the most expensive menu could impress us if did forget the price. In the Netherlands you find many restaurants without a star that could do the same trick for less (even half) the money. We did eat 2 times a la carte same story. They used expensive products like white truffle, caviar, lobster etc. to impress. Also if order a four or more course meal one of the courses is cheese and I asked for something else, I got a green salad. Is this the creativity of a Michelin star chef?
The wine list is by the way good and the local wines are quite affordable? We used it to source good local wines, by ordering a different bottle with each meal enabling us to find a good Luberon wine to take home.
In summary: Would I go there again? Yes! staff, rooms, pools, wellness etc are great. Would take half board? No, there are affordable restaurants in Gordes and the surrounding areas.
