“A very nice hotel in a beautiful place”

We were looking for a decent and affordable place to stay in the area around Monaco, Cannes, Nice and Antibes. We found a very clean and convenient hotel, on the beach beside the Marina of Villeneuve Loubet. This particular place is a must-see if you travel near the area, as it combines the nice, pebbled beach and all the restaurants, clubs and markets you'd expect to find there, with an inside road of immaculate cleanness, filled with flowers, where pedestrians and bikers can enjoy their walk/ride. The (cheapest) rooms we stayed in were spacious and nicely decorated, while some of the other rooms, the most expensive ones, offered a balcony with a view of the beach or a part of the beach itself as a private garden. There was enough parking space inside the premises of the hotel, and a door with a numeric keypad used to give us access to the beach when we entered the correct code. The wifi signal was very strong, even in the parking place of the hotel. The only negative point about this hotel was that the breakfast they serve is overpriced and very poor, so we chose to buy our breakfast from a nearby huge supermarket, that was 300 meters away.

Room Tip: Choose one of the studios by the beach, or the front rooms with a balcony, if you can afford for the...

“Can't wait to return.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

I have just returned from a three night stay at this hotel. I must admit i was shocked at some of the reviews. I booked over the internet a triple room for my husband, 14yr old son and myself. Despite an initial query over the price, the room that awaited us was lovely. Check in was easy and we were greeted warmly and offered free wi'fi which we took advantage of. Our room was classed as 'sea facing' but is actually on the ground floor with a private small garden and facing the bungalows. The garden area is great and is 'private'. The sea is located behind the bungalows. Entry to the beach is via a gate and we were given an access code upon arrival. This gate was always locked when we went through it. The room was large with a double bed, single and a table with two chairs. the patio area also had four chairs and a table. The kitchenette was much appreciated as although we did not use the hob we could use the fridge and had room to plug in our kettle. If you wish to use the kitchette properly they charge extra and i can only assume (but do not know for sure) that perhaps saucepans etc would be provided?; The bathrooms were lovely, recently updated, great shower with free shower gel everyday. Only downside the toilet is separate and on its own so you need to be able to get in the bathroom to wash your hands. Hairdryer was provided. We had the breakfast everyday and although quite expensive (12€ each) you are in the South of France, located about 8km from Nice and 15 mins from Cannes and do expect to pay more. Plenty of choice at breakfast, very fresh and we seemed to be about the only ones having it each day. Free parking. Yes it is a stony beach but that did not bother us. We were there for a Bank holiday (13-14th August) and found that we had a firework display and beach party. It was great but although lots of people attended at 12.45am everything stopped and we heard no more noise. Security was good ,we had electric shutters on our room.Air conditioning was quiet and very efficient. Our only niggle we had booked a triple room, the beds were there but when we went to get into bed that first night no one had made up the third bed or provided the third towel, a quick trip to reception though and we were given the sheets, towels etc and the following day free shower gel left for three not two. I can't wait to return to this hotel.

Room Tip: We loved it , ground floor sea facing with patio area just gave you that little bit more room.

“Basic hotel at a high price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Yes, I know it was high season but this hotel charged us €120 for one night and didn't allow us to check in until 3:00 pm (we were in biking gear).
Maybe the Worst Western would be a more appropriate name.

Room Tip: Book well in advance maybe

“Sterile and characterless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2011

Ideally a good location - would be good for families as you are walk through the car park onto the beach. Fridge and cooker in the room but no pots or pans. Booked a room with sea view and balcony - There was quite a lot of aircraft noise and you could hear disco until the small hours unless you were prepared to sleep with windows closed and air conditioning on. Breakfast was very poor value prepacked plastic. Not really a place for me.

Room Tip: Asdk for seaview

“More of a Motel than a Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2011

I stayed in this hotel with my family in October of 2010. We booked two rooms, one beach front bungalow and a sea view room on the second floor of the main building. The hotel's location is good, and is withing walking distance of downtown, the boardwalk where you can rent bikes, and a small shopping area connected to a much more impressive hotel/timeshare. There were various restaurants there, as well as a supermarket and a laundromat.

Both rooms had beautiful views, although for obvious reasons the bungalow was much better in terms of view. And that's about all the good parts. The hotel has a very cheap feel to it. The bungalow, which is the most expensive type of room this hotel offers, was dirty. The kitchenette counter was dirty, which I cleaned. I then locked the cover it has over it and never used it. I hate cockroaches and was afraid I would run into one if I left the cover up (the cover is a metal rolling door that can be raised or lowered depending if you will use the kitchenette). One of the cabinet doors was broken, so my husband moved it around some to at least give it the appearance that it was closed. Obviously, I am not a fan of the kitchenette. Very convenient for those that might use it, but for me, it caused a negative impression. However, to be fair, the kitchenette in the sea view room was updated and clean, with everything in working condition. The bathroom there was also updated and modernized, much better than the one I had. The bathroom of the bungalow was updated (new and more modern sink and cabinet) but it is TINY!!!

The terrace on the bungalow has probably not been cleaned in months. Immediately upon arrival I stepped out onto the terrace to take in the view. I ran into a left over cup of soda with a burned out cigarette floating in the leftover drink. The table and chairs were dirty, and the tiles have seen better days. The beach is all rocks, so given that I was not using those chairs, I was never able to sit down to enjoy the view. The sea view room is a much better option, since those rooms seem to have been renovated. BUT, the main building needs a facelift as well. The hallways are dark (they do not leave lights on) making it feel unsafe. You can turn the lights on, but they automatically shut off after a certain time (less than 2 minutes). The carpets in the main building are also very worn out and stained.

I think Best Western is trying to improve this hotel, or at least I hope so. The service was very good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Parking is free and so is the WiFi. Location is great, and the view is beautiful. You can even see the planes landing in the Nice airport, which my son loved. They just need to work very, very hard on improving the quality of the rooms. Or to at least make them feel clean. I don't know, it could have been us, but we just didn't get that vibe of good quality from this hotel.
