I stayed in this hotel with my family in October of 2010. We booked two rooms, one beach front bungalow and a sea view room on the second floor of the main building. The hotel's location is good, and is withing walking distance of downtown, the boardwalk where you can rent bikes, and a small shopping area connected to a much more impressive hotel/timeshare. There were various restaurants there, as well as a supermarket and a laundromat.
Both rooms had beautiful views, although for obvious reasons the bungalow was much better in terms of view. And that's about all the good parts. The hotel has a very cheap feel to it. The bungalow, which is the most expensive type of room this hotel offers, was dirty. The kitchenette counter was dirty, which I cleaned. I then locked the cover it has over it and never used it. I hate cockroaches and was afraid I would run into one if I left the cover up (the cover is a metal rolling door that can be raised or lowered depending if you will use the kitchenette). One of the cabinet doors was broken, so my husband moved it around some to at least give it the appearance that it was closed. Obviously, I am not a fan of the kitchenette. Very convenient for those that might use it, but for me, it caused a negative impression. However, to be fair, the kitchenette in the sea view room was updated and clean, with everything in working condition. The bathroom there was also updated and modernized, much better than the one I had. The bathroom of the bungalow was updated (new and more modern sink and cabinet) but it is TINY!!!
The terrace on the bungalow has probably not been cleaned in months. Immediately upon arrival I stepped out onto the terrace to take in the view. I ran into a left over cup of soda with a burned out cigarette floating in the leftover drink. The table and chairs were dirty, and the tiles have seen better days. The beach is all rocks, so given that I was not using those chairs, I was never able to sit down to enjoy the view. The sea view room is a much better option, since those rooms seem to have been renovated. BUT, the main building needs a facelift as well. The hallways are dark (they do not leave lights on) making it feel unsafe. You can turn the lights on, but they automatically shut off after a certain time (less than 2 minutes). The carpets in the main building are also very worn out and stained.
I think Best Western is trying to improve this hotel, or at least I hope so. The service was very good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Parking is free and so is the WiFi. Location is great, and the view is beautiful. You can even see the planes landing in the Nice airport, which my son loved. They just need to work very, very hard on improving the quality of the rooms. Or to at least make them feel clean. I don't know, it could have been us, but we just didn't get that vibe of good quality from this hotel.
