“The Sube is a Must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2007

For our 25th wedding anniversary, we planned a 2 week trip on the French and Italian Riviera. First stop St Tropez! Stayed at the Sube 9/22 and 23/07. Had a beautiful view of the marina from the balcony of our room that was positioned right next to the Bar du Sube's balcony. Convenient for us and not a noise issue.
The room was a comfortable size w/ a makeshift king size bed. The bath was rather sizable and the tub/shower combo was acceptable. Interesting that there is no shower curtain to keep the water from shower getting all over, but we made it work.
There is no parking at the hotel, but you can drive right up to the entrance and drop off your bags and check in then take your car to the parking area as this might be a bit of a walk depending on day of the week and amount of tourists.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The early morning (5am or so) cleanup crew on the streets will definately wake you if you are on the marina side. Not much of an issue though as we were able to get back to sleep with no problems after they left (about 30 minutes).
Perfect location! Walking distance to everything! Great nearby museum which had a beautiful Picasso exhibit when we were there. Definately hit up Joseph L'Escale for a wonderful dinner with an awesome wine list!
Will definately stay at the Sube again!

“Cheap (in South of France terms) but noisy at night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2007

The hotel is about 10mins walk from the bus stop (St. Raphael - St. Tropez) but probably 13mins walk with luggage. It's right on the pier so you can gaze at all the yachts parked right outside the hotel all you want. The location is pretty good for the price we paid (EUR 140/night in early Sept). We booked by calling the hotel and reserving the room. Everything is super expensive in St Tropez. Definitely a 2 star hotel with the quality of the rooms, but at least it seemed clean. They don't have hair dryers in the rooms so you need to borrow one from the reception each time. It's very noisy at night (but it suddenly stops soon after midnight) so don't stay here if you have problems getting to sleep. They have a bar on the ground floor and they blast their music all night long. The breakfast was EUR 9/person so I would suggest you can go outside to look for things to eat in the morning. They serve just a continential breakfast as usual. The "double bed" is actually two single beds put next to each other, so couples be warned! I encountered similar experience in other parts of France, so I guess this is the usual practice?!? Everything is within walking distance, there are restaurants right outside the hotel on the pier, but I would suggest to walk uphill a bit (behind the hotel) to look for restaurants that serve better food at more reasonable prices (still expensive!). The front desk is not much help to give directions and suggestions, but the tourist information centre is just to the right of the hotel (if you facing the sea), so you can easily get information there. I would suggest this hotel for people who want to experience St. Tropez at cheap prices but still need clean rooms. There is also a nicer hotel called La Ponche, which we originally wanted to book, but was full. This one is located in old town and seemed very decent from the outside. Loads of small shops and restaurants right outside this hotel, but it's a bit of a walk from the bus stop which takes you to St. Raphael (for the train to/from Paris), especially if you have luggage!

“The Sube rocks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2007

I can see why the Sube is one of St Tropez top-rated hotels. Anyone considering staying here probably knows that everything is insanely expensive, so it's a relief to find a gem like the Sube that offers decent value for money in a central location. We paid about €160 for our room, which we found to be quaint, spacious and very clean, and had a very pretty view over a palm tree-filled courtyard. No sea view, but also no harbour-front party noise!

The Sube is smack bang in the middle of everything in St Tropez so no need to take overprced taxis, or wear out the designer shoe leather trekking around the place. The hotel is quite small and a little old-fashioned, so if you're expecting the kind of facilities and service normally associated with a large chain hotel, you might be disappointed. St Tropez is as much a state of mind as anything else, so just relax and don't stress over little things like lack of minibar or wifi. The bar on the 1st floor is fantastic and provides hours of peope and yacht-watching enjoyment, at the usual St Tropez prices (actually, to be fair, it's a little cheaper than some of the other harbour-front watering holes). The staff on reception were very helpful in recommending things to do, restaurants etc.

I absolutely LOVED St Tropez and can't wait to return. We took the ferry there from Cannes and were so glad not to have a car to worry about, as the town is small enough to get around on foot, and parking is super expensive. We took the bus out to Pampelonne for €1 each way, saw the historic sights of the pretty and quaint old town, and had a yummy al fresco seafood dinner at La Ponche. We partied up a storm with all the rich and famous people at Les Caves Du Roy and engaged in some retail therapy at the cute offbeat shops and market stalls. Very depressed to be home and can't wait to return. Will definitely stay at the Sube next time around!

Based on previous reviews here, my fiancee and I stayed at Hotel Sube for 5 days. We absolutely LOVED the location, and the people watching from the bar balcony is unbeatable. Our room was small, but comfortable. I have to agree with the other reviews in that the showers could be improved upon, but we made it work.

The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and so nice. I would highly recommend staying here if you enjoy being in center of town.

We stayed at Hotel Sube for 1 night in June 2007. Our hotel was really nice and the view outside our room was beautiful. I recommend paying the extra money for a Harbor View. The hotel is centrally located with lots of boutique close by.

  • Liked — Our View of the Harbour
  • Disliked — There wasn't a shower just a bathtub with a hand held shower head.
