“A Good Bargain”

This hotel is clean and comfortable. Definitely not a 5-Star hotel, but well suited for tourists who spend most of their time touring the region rather than staying in the room. We stayed for nearly two weeks. The staff were exceedingly helpful and very polite and professional. We didn't speak any French beyond the salutations, but the staff knew enough English so we could communicate. These are "residence" type rooms that have fully equiped small kitchenettes with a refrigerator, two burner glasstop stove, dishwasher, sink, and all the pots/pans/dishes you would need to cook in. Restaurants are nearby, and very good, but pricey; the ability to cook in was a major savings. Suggest travelers prepackage your spices or other compact dry goods and bring with to save buying in local stores.

The room is very quaint. It is the approximate size of a large American hotel room, but the kitchen carves out some floor space. Once you enter thru the door, you're in the "bunk room", essentially a large closet. Bunks on one side, and the other side has a closet and the door to the bath/shower. Continuing thru you'll enter the main living area which has the sofa/bed, dining table and kitchen. The bunkroom can be closed off from the main area for privacy, though you must transit the bunkroom to access the bath. The main area has generous cabinet space for two or more people to stow their folded garments. The bunkroom only had an upper shelf in the closet, though we had three adults sharing the room (one couple and a single) and were able to use the upper bunk to stow empty luggage and extra whatevers.

The bedding is so-so for comfort. The double sofa bed had a very firm mattress, that after a couple days, became uncomfortable; same with the bunk beds.

There is parking on the property for a price, and that is an unresolved issue for me at this writing; before traveling, checking Expedia and several other sites, put the price of parking a 24e per week, however, at the time of checkout, the hotel said their two week parking rate was 78e, that equates to nearly $150 usd, either the booking sites are mis-informed and don't update their sites, or the hotel mgmt gouges their guests, don't know which at this point. But nevertheless parking on the streets in the area is at a premium, virtually non-existent.

Laundry: For one load of clothes, they charge 8e, that's nearly $12usd, and includes the detergent and use of the washer and dryer, an exceedingly high price I think. There is only one washer and dryer and the hours of availablity are limited. The machines require a token (available from the clerks) One wash load takes 50 minutes, so take a book with you. I found that other people will put their clothes in the machine then disappear, leaving thier items in it after it has finished They don't charge for the use of an iron and board (again, we stayed for two weeks, laundering was a must). Laundry was inconvenient in this regard, limited hours, minimal equipment, and cost.

The property is centrally located and a block from the water's edge, though no view of the waterfront. Walking is big in the city, nearly everything is accessible by walking, to drive in the city is stressful, streets are poorly marked. Walking is the best mode to get around locally.

One of the inconveniences in France is that many places close from noon to about 3pm for their main meal of the day, this includes the hotel lobby staff. This is a cultural thing I guess. This is inconvenient for tourists, particularly American tourists, who typically roust out mid to late morning, just in time for a lot of accomodations to close.

Extra Costs: The hotel's listing on these travel sites attracts people by the hotel's affordable nightly rate, however, they charge for alot of trivial things, like bath towels, to change those out will cost 8-10e. We laundered ours with our clothing, of course that cost too. The bed linens will cost to change too. Other things that cost extra money is use of the television and the telephone, we didn't use those so I don't know what they would have cost. So when researching your hotel stay, be sure to ask about such things then weigh the total price against a competitor that is all inclusive.

Overall, the hotel is clean and nice and the staff was extremely polite, helpful, and professional. I never had a bad encounter with any of the staff. I would consider this place if I were to return.
