We got an exceptional rate on our upgraded room at Le Mas De Pierre - so I will start off by saying that if I was paying full rate card pricing I would be way more critical.
I am extremely familiar with very upscale resorts in the US and Carribean. While this place isn't the Four Seasons, it has all the feel of the region that I would hope for when traveling in another country and exploring another culture. The views from our room were absolutely lovely, the staff was polite and helpful, the grounds of the property were meticulously kept, and the dinner we had in the bistro was one of the best on our trip around Europe. (49E for a pre-fix 3 course menu with a glass of wine - great deal and highly recommend it)
The spa is tiny and when I went in to use the steam room it wasn't working and no one was around to help - so I just scrapped it. They also offered a driver that would take us into town for free, but when we asked about that later, it wasn't available either... Traveling off season, they were definitely down to a skeleton crew at the hotel, but it didn't feel like it in terms of response times for the most part with the few small exceptions I just noted. The pool was totally empty, but it looked fantastic. I just love all the little nooks and romantic tucked away spots on the grounds. The property must smell incredible too when all the herbs and flowers are in season.
Other reviews complain that this place is remote, but there is a HUGE grocery store within walking distance at the end of the road if you want to stock up on wine and snacks like we did - and the breakfast in room is DEFINITELY WORTH IT. We ordered breakfast for 1 every morning and it stuffed both myself and my husband. Very good.
We stayed for 3 nights here on our way from Florence to Barcelona - we spent one day in Saint John de Vence and the Foundation Maeght and another day in Eze and Monaco and this was the perfect landing spot for us at the end of each day. Highly recommend this resort (especially if the rooms are less than $300/night) and the area in general for a trip.
