We are two professional, married couples in our 40's to 60's. No children.
The staff was remarkably helpful and accommadating.
The rooms were small, with limited closet space, but to be expected in an old manor house. The interior decor was charming.
The bathrooms were modern enough, average sized and had plenty of hot water. Only problem was that our shower door didn't seal well at its bottom. So the water streamed down the door and onto the floor, requiring we use a bunch of towels to soak up the water.
The grounds were kept tidy and manicured and had beautiful views of St. Paul De Vence, across the valley.
The breakfast buffet was European country style with a good and wide selection of healthy foods. It did not resemble the tacky buffets at American hotel chains. There were no donuts, processed muffins and waffles. Thank goodness. Instead, Hotel La Grande Bastide offered a delightful selection of cheeses, different breads, croissants, sweets, dates, figs, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, three different juices, cereals, granola and much more. Espresso was also available.
We chose and enjoyed this location because of its charm, pool, its open space, privacy, and its position away from the hustle and bustle of the city atmosphere. So, yes, you will need a car. Consider that the other hotel guests will also have the financial means to rent / own a car.
The Hotel La Grande Bastide is situated right up along a two lane road. The roar of cars, motorcycles and trucks were occasionally noisy when outside near the pool or on the terrace. But I think the vehicle traffic noise was conspicuous because it pierced the solitude and quietness this hotel offers most of the time. It was certainly more peaceful than any hotel located in the heart of Nice.
We had a very poor wireless internet connection in my room, which was frustrating.
