“Extended my intended stay”

This hotel is a small gem. I completely disagree with those who rated the staff rude. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The pool is great and the cafe next to it and the view from it are EXCEPTIONL. I wish i can have the breakfast there daily! This is not a 5-star hotel, but I will definitely reserve a room there when in the French Rivierra.

“A very pleasant holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

Though we were rather cautious given previous reviews, the "last minute (huh, second)" travelers in the high season were not given many opportunities to stay in a villa at French Riviera, so we have booked a de-luxe room in this hotel for a bit less than two weeks. I do not understand the disappointment of some of the reviewers, since the manager and staff are all extremely nice and helpful, speaking many languages fluently, the place is very clean (daily cleaning of the rooms), quiet, relaxed and well kept. We were in a room of the largest type and it was very comfortable. It is not a luxury villa for James Bond, but more a traditional Provencal house what was exactly what we were looking for.

Though the address of the hotel is "Saint Paul" it is actually more at the border of Cagnes-sur-mer, so it is close (by car) to shops and services. The swimming pool is clean and relatively large and it can be very convenient alternative to going to the beach. For the garden and the plants: I guess one has to accept cultural difference between an impeccable English garden and a more "natural looking" French garden, where the grass and leaves are allowed to change colour from bright green to a more yellowish tone during long dry summers. The garden is definitely not neglected, it is just not "English" :-)

Food & drinks are limited to a breakfast which is rather basic (coffee, bread, butter, jam) and hardly worth the price (10 €/person). Rooms have empty refrigerators so one has to take care for his drinks and snacks. Luckily, every supermarket in the vicinity has larger choice of wine, cheese and pate than most restaurants in the other parts of the world, so the lack of a restaurant at the hotel is more bearable.

One has to have a private car, otherwise the hotel is too remote for convenient travelling around and the hotel is located beside a relatively busy road. We have not noticed the traffic noise at all (we are exposed to something like that at home), it is absolutely not as bad as the traffic in cities, but if one seeks a cottage in the woods where you can hear only birds - this is not the best option. Also, the place is not really a party place where one could meet people: it is rather private and quiet, so it is not a good choice for people who would expect a pool party every night. Same goes for small children: they can stay at the hotel, but not much is provided for them.

Overall, the stay in the hotel was a very pleasant experience and definitely a good choice.

“Great diappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2007

The hotel was a huge disappointment to me. It’s located directly at a
noisy road with very simple rooms. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly and the shower worked only after applying physical force. The service seemed aloof and the breakfast was disappointing. The gardens were totally abandoned, I felt sorry for the plants. I upmost
wonder how the hotel managed to get rated with 3 stars. I wouldn’t give more than one.

“Nothing special, but ok!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2006

We stayed at this hotel at the end of May 2006 due to its location (driving distance from Nice and Cannes and the Monaco grand prix!).

The hotel was harder to find than expected, as it was much further away from the centre of the beautiful village of St Paul de Vence than we expected. The hotel is actually just off of a main road, so there is some traffic noise, especially if you are out by the pool (which is very nice - not huge, but inviting).

We upgraded to a superior room, which had a good sized balcony, and an in-room fridge/mini-bar. The cleanliness of the room wasn't too bad except for a very sticky patch in one corner which seemed to have been there for some time.

Building works were going on in the plot next door; however luckily at the time we were there, it didn't seem to be very noisy.

The staff were friendly and most of them spoke very good English. The continental breakfasts were excellent.

The location of the hotel is good if you have hired a car and wish to go exploring; otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. We got a taxi to the railway station one day (a 5 minute drive) for which we were charged 30 Euros!!!!

“Nice little hotel close to St Paul”

We stayed for one night at Les Bastides St Paul in September. The room was quite spacious and was nicely decorated, and had a balcony. The hotel has a swimming pool as well. However, I cannot say anything about the breakfast, because we had to leave very early for the airport, and they didn't serve breakfast that early. I recommend this hotel for travellers with car who want to visit St Paul, since this hotel is only a short drive away from the pittoresque village.
