“Rest. "Le Vistaero" - breathtaking views - not to be missed!”
Not being able to locate a separate section for this restaurant, I'm placing our review here.
Hubby and I have just visited "Le Vistaero" for the 4th time and - as usual - had a very good time and thoroughly once again enjoyed the fabulous views from this restaurant/hotel. This has become a firm "must do" event on our travel itinerary when visiting southern France. Even though staying in Cannes, we didn't mind the drive to/from, to spend an evening here. Hence, we'd like to make future visitors to the area aware of this unique possibility - and not the least, that you can come here to dine or just have a drink, even though you don't stay overnight at the hotel.
In similarity with previous visits, we had chosen to visit "Le Vistaero" on one of the nights, where they offer the "Soirée Feux D'Artifice" packet, where a pre-fixed menu is set in combination with fireworks taking place way below you over Monaco yacht harbor. This arrangement includes a 4-course set dinner at a price of EUR 65 per person. A reasonable price taking the quality of the food and not the least the indescribable view in consideration. We are talking gourmet dishes well prepared and beautifully presented on the plate + on top you have a first row seat to the fireworks. On regular evenings menus are a la carte and less expensive. But for a night out or celebrating an event, the "Soirée Feux D'Artifice" evenings are perfect.
And if yuo findt it a bit over your budget, you can still experience the fantastic view by stopping by at "The Lounge" located just above the restaurant and offering exactly the same magnificent view while you can sip cocktails. Don't miss out of a visit to either the restaurant or lounge if your way take you up on the Grand Cornice above Monaco!
Having said so - I'm rating the latest visit "only" 4 stars - as we did find that food and especially service was slightly downgraded to previous visits. The dinner served 25AUG11 was indeed in top, only we recall previous menus being a bit more fancy. We lacked an
amuse bouch and a higher level of service. First course was served 2 min. after we had received our pre-dinner drink, hence we were not ready to dine yet at all. And the presentation of the various dishes were presented mumbling, so only due to the written menu we realized what was on the plates. All little details - but should be in order at a 5-star property. Worst was, however, that when requesting champagne with our meal, the sommelier asked if it was OK that he served it in the redwine glasses already placed on the table. It was so unexpected to us that we didn't manage to say no and ask for correct champagne glasses. When the firework came on, it took quite a while till the light was turned down, hence making it rather difficult for us to watch its beauty fully as reflexes were seen too clearly in the windowglasses. These little details should be corrected for in the future - and if the management read this report, we'll suggest to have this event held outdoors on the terrace only, as this provides for a much better view of the fireworks and adds to the elegance of the entire experience.
As said, the above are little things only - and we'll be back when our travel plans take us to the French Riviera next time. And we'll recommend you fellow travellers to stop by too.
Kind regards - PURPLE
