“Generally a solid choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2009

Most people don't realize that the Hermitage, Hotel de Paris, Monte Carlo Beach and Bay Hotels are owned by the same company. The company is quite savvy and has designed each property to suit different customer tastes...or so it was explained to me.

I had a standard sea view room (which, for a standard room) was fantastic- the view of the bay and principality was great. The room was very comfortable although a little dark.
At the front desk, the French-speaking staff was well-trained and extremely polite. The Italian-speaking staff was arrogant and off-putting.
The hotel is really a destination...they are booked 6 months in advance and they know it.
Good for a night or two to experience Monaco's nightlife...the adjacent outdoor club/bar is exquisite. Then again, Monaco is small!
One downside... the shuttle service between properties is unreliable and taxis can be impossible to get in Monaco...plan accordingly if you aren't willing to walk... and walk vigorously!

“*terrible experience”

* Hotel did nothing that it promised - we were extremely let down by them, they do not respond to correspondence or return telephone calls, I would never book this hotel again.

“Ageing ungracefully”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2008

I was really disappointed with my stay this year. I stayed 10 years ago and raved about going back. I finally got there and was so let down. The place hasnt been kept up, the paint is cracking, the bed covers are so old and faded. The staff were snooty, the breakfast and room service were pitiful. Hate to see it loose its charm but I wont go back. I had to go to the Monte Carlo Bay just to get a decent breakfast.
The view is still fantastic and so is the pool area but that is it.

“Greta if you loved the 1980's”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2008

If you travel to Monaco you have to stay at an SBM hotel, they literally own the place, and if a beach is what you want then the Beach-Hotel is the place to be. In summary, the Bay Hotel is your Vegas style modern hotel with landscaping and interior design all within an inch of its life. The Beach-Hotel is THE place to be if you want sun/sand and cocktails, the pool or the cabana is the place to be and to be seen; definitely go on a diet before visiting if you know what I mean. By night, the hotel's Sea Lounge is the coolest place to sip cocktails and watch uber yachts cruising the bay, and fire-works if you are lucky like us. Ok that's the good news ! the Bad news, this hotel looks like the summer of 1985...seriously, faux french antiques sanded back with lime-wash colours, it's like a bad dream despite every room having water-front rooms. They have refurbished one room on the ground level as a sample which you can book if available, however, they've swung from one extreme to another and the interior is probably better suited to a hip hotel in a city - not a cruisy chillin sea-side location. Service is good, hotel is clean, they just need to join the rest of the world in 2008. At this price, you could get your own villa in one of a dozen Asian 6 star hotels with a butler, nice location but not value for money.

  • Liked — Location - awesome poolside / beach club
  • Disliked — Tired dated old rooms, and I mean old

“ILLEGAL DEALS”

We actually won a "3 night stay package" on the auction of the official tourism office webpage "visitmonaco.com" for a good price. Before bidding, we made sure that there was availibility for the dates we wanted to stay there. After winning the auction, we requested the dates that we wanted to travel and were told that the hotel was not available for those days! I had made reservation by myself just to be sure of the availibilty but the hotel still wouldn't give us the rooms because they said that they prefer to sell the rooms for a higher rate. The management was very arrogant and openly showed us thier greed to get higher price for their rooms. If you ask me, they do illegal business and I cannot recommend anyone to stay at this hotel.
And beware of "visitmonaco.com". They don't stick to their part of the deal either!
