We had taken the high speed train from Paris, needed to spend a night in Nice. Perfect choice. Albert 1er is an old place, but clean. We had a room on the 4th floor with a small balcony that overlooked a lovely park across the street. The waterfront to our left and the heart of the tourist stores restaurants and outdoor shops to out left. For those homesick there is even a Mickey Dee's less then a quarter mile away. The room was adequate -- The location was great -- The price was exactly right!!! This might be your place!

Location, Location. Just a public bus ride from Nice airport for a few euros then within walking distance of the old town, flower markets and to the buses for Monaco and coastal towns. Only two minutes from the beach this hotel is very good value. A bit jaded but with character..loved the shell design sink and bidet. Breakfast was enjoyable with helpful staff. The foyer and lift are very small but otherwise a bit of a glimpse into the past glory of Nice."Shabby chic"

We were a group of 80 people from Melbourne Australia on a 5 week private European tour This was our first hotel staying four nights. The hotel was reasonable for the price but the MANAGEMENT OF THE HOTEL left a lot to be desired. On arrival without advising our Tour Organizer we found the Manager had booked half of us into another hotel. THEN found out he had arranged for the 80 of us not to eat at their hotel but booked us into a restaurant several blocks away. The meals at this restaurant were appalling, eg lettuce & carrot for en tree, poor quality chicken and potatoes for main and watery custard for dessert, and they did not improve for the four nights. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT HAD APPARENTLY TAKEN A CUT OF 5 EURO PER PERSON OFF THE MEAL PRICE, HENCE THE POOR QUALITY. This all done without the tour organizer's knowledge, when he complained the person responsible just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. There was nothing out organizer could do, so we just had to put up with it.

SO IF ARRANGING A GROUP BOOKING I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.

The hotel itself was reasonable, a good breakfast, rooms old but clean, good location. I agree the key security is unsatisfactory, anyone can ask for the your key to your room once handed into reception.

The best thing about this hotel is the location - it is less than a minute walk from the beach, 5 minutes into the heart of the old town, and the airport bus stops within a few metres of the hotel.

We stayed in mid September and the hotel was still busy. Our room was on the first floor (104) next to the breakfast room. The windows gave a view of the sea and the public gardens, very well sound proofed windows. Large flat tv on wall and large wardrobe, mini fridge, air con. Bath and shower too.
The main down side of the stay was 2 nights out of the 4, when the bar below played loud music until early hours of morning. So loud that ear plugs failed to help.

Despite it being a bit 'tired' in places, everything was very clean, staff friendly, the location is absolutely perfect and far better than any of the newer hotels towards the railway station. For this reason we will return to this hotel.
