“great for stopover, but not only”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

1 km from the airport, not more then 500 meters to the train station, located just opposite of Cap 3000 shopping mall, near to the beach from where you can watch planes taking off. Shuttle bus from/to the airport (but there are some hours during the day when it doesn't operate)
Staff very kind and helpful and provided all information I needed. Rooms are small, but comfortable and well planned and what is also important quiet. Beds are excellent! Bathroom small but clean and there are necessary cosmetics. As I drink lots of tea I was happy that there is kettle, cups, tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast is another reason to choose this hotel - excellent choice and good quality, including food for bio-freaks ;-)

Room Tip: ask for a room with a pool view

“Good spot, super staff. Near great beach promenande.”

Very nice stay here for two nights before flight out. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast spread was superb: eggs, breads, yogurts, cereals, meats, cheeses, and fruit. Had a nice room with a double bed and big windows facing CAP 3000 shopping center and the ocean. Room was not much bigger than the bed but good design and plenty of room to maneuver. Good TV stations too. The hotel's location across from CAP 3000 was great because there is a big grocery store inside there with specialty food islands with prepared foods (middle eastern was best!). Alas, CAP 3000 is closed on Sundays so stock up on snacks or walk along the promenade along the nearby beach where there are 20-30 nice restaurants along the way.
Big disappointment at the hotel was getting ripped off by the taxi operator the hotel uses to send you to airport because the staff is not allowed to use the hotel shuttle bus before 6:45 a.m., even though they have their own shuttle bus. The night before my flight, I went to front desk where the staff very nicely called their designated taxi company to make a 5:00 a.m. reservation for a taxi for me (flight at 7:00 a.m.), and she confirmed twice on the phone that the price is fixed price of 20 euro. And the morning of my departure, the gentleman staffing the hotel's front desk was kindly waiting outside my room to carry my luggage downstairs so the sound of rolling luggage would not disturb other guests! Wow how thoughtful. And my taxi was there waiting; it was a THREE (3) minute ride (yes I timed it). The meter was never turned on and the driver demanded 22 euro at the end of the ride and asked if I would like a receipt! oh yes, I have the receipt for the rip-off ride. So my stay ended on a sour note because of having to pay 22 euro for a three minute ride. (I paid ten euro in Florence for a 15 minute ride to train station two days before!) And it was busy at the airport at 5:00 a.m. There were seven flights out before 8:45 am that required a two hour early check-in that morning so why can't the Mercure Nice Cap 3000 Aerport allow its shuttle bus to be used before 6:45 a.m.? Or why doesn't it arrange for taxis that don't gouge/overcharge its guests going to the aeroport? FYI - A decent meal with wine for one is less than 22 euros. Still a good place to stay and the the Saint Laurent du Var promenade and beach are great, but stay here knowing that the hotel will probably arrange for you to be gouged for a taxi ride.

“Convenient for Airport and Train, but it isn't Charming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

The Mercure Cap 3000 is convenient for the Nice airport, but I can't imagine many other reasons to stay here. It's facing the parking lot of a huge shopping center. Enough said. It is an easy walk from the Saint-Laurent du Var train stop, so you can catch several trains an hour up and down the coast, so if all the hotels in Nice or Antibes are full or too expensive it is useable as a base. But don't expect any Riviera charm. That said, it's a nice modern hotel for what it is. My room was functional, comfortable, quiet and clean. The staff is nice. I didn't have time for breakfast but it looked like a decent spread. I even has an outdoor pool, which is rare for this sort of hotel. One tip: the free airport shuttle doesn't run all day, so you might want to check with them when it runs before booking to make sure it's convenient for your flight. The airport is about two kilometers away so could almost walk or take a 10-15 euro cab ride.

“good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Hotel located near to the airport ( 1 km, ) taxi (mafia) will cost around 20 euros, you can also take bus 200, 400 or 500 from terminal 1 and get of at "Passarelle" - first stop in Saint Laurent du Var (that will cost you one euro).
Near to big shopping center which is open until 20 or 21p.m. where in galeria lafayette you can buy local treats like lavender honey or violets confiture.
Hotel - rooms are small, but clean and functional, anyway you don't spend too much time in the hotel room. You can make tea or coffee in the room.
Staff was very helpful.
There is internet corner free of charge and wifi available in the hotel.
The part I liked most about this hotel was breakfast ;-) excellent selection of meats, cheeses, jams ant there was even "bio" corner. Also dinner was surprisingly good.
That was my second stay in this hotel and should I be in the area I will stay there again.

“Great hotel but don't take a cab from the airport!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

First of all, this is a very nice and new and EXTREMELY clean hotel very conveniently located close to the train, the beach and an immense shopping mall. The staff includes some of the nicest people I've met, not just in France, but in my life! Elodie at the front desk was incredibly nice and professional and Valerie at breakfast and the bar was just over the top nice. She told me she loved America and it really made me feel good because as an American you feel sometimes like the French are looking at you like, "How can you possibly be wearing those shoes?" and it is nice to meet somebody who just blatantly loves your country. I've always had really good luck in France but the staff at this hotel was just above and beyond. Forget about getting that kind of service in the States, it just doesn't exist, I don't care where you're staying. The only two slight issues were a) I made the mistake of getting a cab from the airport since I got in at 5 pm and the free shuttle didn't start until 6,45 pm. The taxi charged me 18 euro for the 1 km ride!!! And apparently this is standard because the cabs have to make some money and so they tack on 5 euro for this and 6 euro for that. My advice is, contact the hotel in advance and figure out how to get there with public if you don't have a car, or just sit and have a drink and wait for the shuttle. The other thing was that I asked for a quiet room and I ended up getting put next to the elevator and the whole night was "ba-BOOM! ba-BOOM!" with the doors slamming. I'm sure if I'd asked they would have changed me but I was so groggy with jet lag I just thought the guy in the next room was going in and out a million times. I would totally stay here again, St. Laurent du Var is not the most exciting place in the world but it's pretty and it has some good restaurants and anyway you've got Nice, Cannes and Monaco a short train ride away without all the noise, dirt and chaos and expense. This place is a winner!

Room Tip: Don't get put by the elevator if you're a light sleeper. If you're a heavy sleeper, take...
