The Hotel Acanthe is reasonably priced for its superb location beside Place Massena, overlooking the Forum Jacques Medecin a park with beautiful fountains. We booked one of the five double rooms which overlook the forum and it was well furnished and comfortable. Other rooms in the hotel overlook one of two side streets which shape the smoothing iron hotel building. These rooms looked compact but equally comfortable. Rue Jacques Medecin THE shopping street in Nice is just round the corner. Nice's beach is 4/5 minutes walk away through the old town or via Place Massena. The beach is a magnificent 5k curve but stoney, very. The stones are perfectly smooth but hard on the feet. I would recommend a pair of light swimming shoes if going to the beach. Another plus is the hotel is beside the bus stop out to the airport and a 2/3 minutes walk from the terminus on the way in. If staying for a week get a 15€ pass at the airport. That will cover the bus and tram journeys for a week. Most trips in the extensive Nice bus/tram system cost €1.

Nice can be very expensive both accommodaton and eating out wise. But if like me you like a low to medium price range (€40 - €80 per room a night), a good central location when in cities and towns and a normal standard of comfort and service then you should consider the Hotel Acanthe. We tended to buy local ingredients at one of the local markets, Cours Saleya is a 4/5 walk away and is outstanding, and made meals in the hotel.

It's true, Hotel Acanthe has a great location, but that's probably it. Although everyone has written that's it's a budget hotel and there's not much to expect, the 72 euros a night was outrageous for this place.
Our room was tiny, literally too small for us to unpack at the same time. The walls are so thin you can hear everything, especially since our room was right next to the very noisy elevator.
There is a fan, no air-conditioning, and leaving the windows open will keep you up all night because of the noise on the street below.
The hotel staff was friendly and gave us another room after 1 night, because ours was so small (they admitted it was indeed), which was nice. The other room was better but still quite depressing.
I would recommend this hotel for couples who do not plan to come back to their hotel during the day and who don't mind sharing a tiny bed.
The location is great but other than that, there must be something better for 72,- a night...

People are sympathetic
But main negative aspect is : really Noisy Hotel, Inside and Outside.
The door in each room close noisily... specially with the employees early in the morning.
At reception, employees shift per morning/afternoon/night and information /requests are not transmitted to each other : We ask to change the linen in the morning because dirty.. after many requests, we ask the bedsheet and did it ourselves in the evening.

In short. it s a hotel with pretention but not meanings.

Went to Nice for a family party and arrived one day early. Had been booked here by friend so arranged to stay for the extra night. We arrived late and had been booked into room 5, small dingy room with a cupboard which had been made into a shower and no toilet in the room. The man on reception was apologetic and did admit that it was not a good room. We were offered a double room, but really wanted a twin, so stayed one night and booked another hotel. Other family friends and family stayed in the hotel, and said that the double rooms were better. On the positive side the room was very clean and the staff pleasant.
